With all the recent slayer updates it's barely a viable method for training slayer, but it brings a key point of difference. Don't want it dead after a week with only pet hunters left.

I'm the marketing guy. If I went into a dev meeting and started talking about how to balance rewards they'd politely escort me out and close the door behind me. As it should be.

I loved the Trailblazer trailer! The only problem I saw with it was the narrator reading the full description of all of the starting relics. That is too much detail for a trailer in my opinion. Giving players the basic idea of each relic is enough, as they will presumably be able to find the full details in game, on the wiki, on the official website, etc. if they care enough. A second video with full details about mechanics and restrictions for the league could also be helpful. I'm thinking along the lines of League of Legends "champion spotlights"

Ah, see that was deliberate. One of the things that happened with Twisted League that I'm trying to avoid this time is that some folks weren't sure what Leagues was all about and wanted to wait until it started to get that info from streamers etc. Then of course they waited "too long" and felt they couldn't catch up so ended up skipping it.

The way I thought about it, if we put out poll blogs which has all the details of upcoming content in the main game with really niche details like exact XP rates etc then I could add a little more info to this without ruining everything.

Teamwork/coordination is key. I remember back in the day when obelisk control was vital to avatar slaying and people would jump into CC's and organize their fragment dumps with the higher level players at the avatar to spec dump. Coordinating huge pushes at the end of the game to swing the score in their favor.

Everyone can contribute it's not all about pvp. Lower level players are just as effective and important for fragment collecting and bone burying.

It's not all about offensive prowess, defending/controlling graveyards and the obelisk are just as important as killing the avatar.

It's not all about winning it's about having fun with other like minded players, everyone is rewarded for their contribution at the end of the day.

See that's what I'm looking forward to the most. I suck at PvP in every game (except War Thunder) but oh BOY am I a great healer or ammo runner whatever, I like to be helpful you know? Really hoping that attitude comes back along with Soul Wars.

While perhaps not special outside of OSRS, capturing points is something unique to it. Might be worth showing it is about capturing points, but as part of fighting a big boss rather than just capturing points and fighting players. Also, the exp rewards allowing it to be a training method while still earning other rewards will likely appeal to a lot of players.

The strategic element is certainly part of my current plan. I don't really want to call it a MOBA inside OSRS but it share a ton of the same DNA so I've been toying with that angle and attempting to Old School-up the concept.

Gonna sneak in here real quick. Like Trailblazer I'm handling the marketing of Soul Wars. Aside from nostalgia (which I've got covered), what do you think Soul Wars has that I should be shouting the loudest about?

Mostly the next-gen consoles and the launch titles for that. Whilst few of those were direct competitors you couldn't book ad space for love nor money. I even had a signed booking bumped by a major publisher because their global headquarters had arranged a deal worldwide with Microsoft. No-one had told the UK team a thing about it so we certainly felt for them stuck in the middle. They were very kind to offer us x2 value on other bookings though but the primo slots were way outta reach.

Curious why you would release this knowing shadowlands releases the previous day. Both of these games have huge incentives to put in large amounts of time on release. I'm now forced to choose one or the other instead of both. Seems like a poor decision to me.

Wish it were otherwise, Jagex isn't like other games companies. Ultimate decision on launch dates aren't owned by marketing, the best we can do is advise. I can say the date was locked in well before the Shadowlands date was announced but that doesn't really change the situation much for those caught in the middle.

All I can really hope for is that people like you will find a way to balance both games and at least give Trailblazer a fair shake.

I'm sorry you experienced that. I'm not going to sit here and pretend decent raiding guilds have a PMA and growth mentality but its usually not as bad as you described.

i love both games and im a little crushed by this news. but life goes on as we know :)

Not gonna lie, I stayed mostly because they had a cool name.

Personally, any impact in metrics will factor in Shadowlands. Date wise I do wish they didn't conflict but we were locked in long before the WoW announcement was made and this was the only workable window. There are a few other things for OSRS in the back half of the year, some you know and others you'll be hearing about soon so it's a balancing act.

From a more human side of it, as much as I love seeing you guys enjoy the game I do worry when I see people putting in extreme hours so I'll always encourage splitting your time between two or more games; In the end it's probably better for you and will stave off burnout. But always remember to build in breaks, take care of yourselves and drink plenty of water.

Trailblazer is time limited but Shadowlands will still be there in January.

theres just to much to do in wow during an xpac release or a new raid tier. the people who play both but are interested in raiding will never drop raiding for a runescape league but will desperately want to play both.

Yup. Wish it wasn't the case and people are going to have to make choices. It's a real glass houses situation because I've blown off IRL engagements for raids in the past. Heck I've woken up at 2am to go raid with the absolute meanest people in the world because that's the slot my too-serious-for-their-own-good guild assigned us... less gifted players.

its more because shadowlands you're committed to a group osrs is solo. i want to go hard on next league but that won't be possible due to its release date.

Completely understand. Though the marketer in me does want need to point out that Trailblazer is time limited but Shadowlands will still be there in January.

I know that's not how it works in the real world but once you've worked in sales once that old hard sell never quite leaves you...

Mayhaps my dude, depends how afk friendly you make it (:

Not saying you should but Endless Harvest is looking like a pretty good first choice relic for an AFK build, particularly with extra resources being sent directly to your bank...

Absolutely. As a passive unlock everyone has infinite run energy meaning you kids can Run To X on your clues without delay!
