Hey there,

First of all, In general I would advise against staking.

Aside from that, we have released a hotfix about half an hour ago for an issue where it was possible for someone to crash anyone else in the game world. Which is obviously dangerous and something we don't want within our game.

Our initial investigations suggest that less than 25 players have been affected and the video above seems to be in line with our findings of this crash.

This issue is not linked to the server reboot from yesterday and it should no longer occur after the hotfix that went out earlier.

Thank you for clarification. I just hope this is honest and true. The playerbase as much as they would be annoyed such a dupe can happen again, would no doubt prefer honesty and integrity instead of secrecy.

Hopefully an earlier night for you tonight eh? Lol

We have no reason to lie and I personally pride myself for being honest (even when it gets rough). I should get an earlier night today, hopefully!

Thanks for following up on this. Can you comment/clarify as to what was causing the worlds to 'fall over'? i.e. Was this caused by player activity, a bug in software, hardware issues with the servers, etc...?

And is there potential for something similar to happen in the future (i.e. has the issue been permanently fixed, or has it just been band-aided for the time being?)

The server got into a weird state because of a combination of player activity and a bug in the software. The fix that we applied should avoid it from happening in the future.

I would attribute that to speculation and manipulation. There is nothing out of the ordinary from what we can see.

I would say this is unlikely, the tech / code we work works to upscale it but sadly it doesn't work the other way around. I will take note of the interest in this, I know there are more players who would like to see this.

The way fonts work in RuneScape is very different from any other game and it's not as easy to just make it bigger. We know there is a demand for this and it is part of the things that we investigate to make the game more accessible.

As a company, Jagex will NEVER openly admit to the item duplication/massive influx of wealth into the game. It’s a basic financial reason, because at the end of the day Jagex is a business - one which makes the bulk of its revenue off of MTX and bonds purchases, etc. The actual cash value of the first item duplication from weeks ago was $130,000 USD+ on the RWT market. It was borderline fraud and they still refuse to acknowledge that.

Because the majority of the revenue depends on these, openly admitting to a massive item and cash duplication will create massive amounts of inflation, as most people will see fit to react to. You’re currently seeing this, with the rares/discontinued market. There is obvious price manipulation in the phat market, people selling to their own alts, etc, but the number one cause of this massive increase is due to a huge influx of cash in the g...

I will just reiterate that there has been no dupe and the reboot was to resolve an issue which would allow other worlds to fall over, hence we addressed it.

Claims or clear inaccuracies in posts like these are purely based on speculation and are in reality often used to manipulate prices of items. Hence we would always advise to do your due diligence before you decide to enter and trade on the rare item market.

Last but not least, we would never ban anyone for having a different opinion in our game and the subreddit is managed by a group of volunteers from the subreddit, we have no control over their decisions.

Please have a read of the updated we provided here.

Based on our investigations we can confirm there has been no duplication of wealth and it is has been something of a different nature compared to what transpired a little over a month ago. We decided to resolve this late at night because it had the potential of making other worlds go offline too.

I hope the various replies and update on the thread answers your questions.

We would by no means say it is normal for us to reboot the worlds that late at night.

We're all for transparency but sadly we did not have all the puzzle pieces at the time of writing. We had enough information for us to know it could happen to other worlds and what we could do to resolve it, but we hadn't figured out the exact cause and its implications. We needed more time for this and now we've got these, we've provided an update.

:)

I've updated the thread, but we can confirm the game itself hasn't been impacted. The accounts who were playing on W11 at that time have since also been "unlocked" and can play again.

Why are you rebooting the worlds, and what was the reason for W11 going down? I presume the two are related.

When we investigated W11, we did indeed find an issue that could also allow other worlds to fall over. To mitigate this we've rebooted the worlds with a change to stop the issue from potentially occurring.

After our investigation we can confirm that what caused world 11 to go offline was caused by something of a different nature.

Why say this when you have replied once?

Because we intend to continue the conversation once more information becomes available.

I've seen a lot of messages asking us for more information about the server reboot and whether this could have been a dupe.

Sadly, we're not in a position to answer that question yet. It takes a while for data/information to propagate/become available in particular if it is a massive game like RuneScape.

We are investigating it thoroughly and we want to be confident in the answer we give you, instead of potentially drawing conclusions too quickly.

Halowa everyone,

We'll be rebooting all game worlds in the next 30 minutes to deploy an essential server update to all our game worlds.

This maintenance will last for approximately 5 minutes.

Apologies for the disruption.

The Reboot has been complete and you can continue playing as normal.

Update 22/07/2020 12:00 Game-Time

After a thorough investigation, we can confirm that an issue which could cause worlds to go offline has now been resolved.

Regarding the concerns some of you have about the in-game economy: there has been no duplication of gold or rare/valuable items.

We would also like to reiterate that we take disruption of play and...
