See it less as a 'lost grove' quest and more of a 'Elven quartet' quest... exploring the 4 elves instead of an area and Solak.
It's late here, but wanted to give you at least a basic answer to your question. Solak, Merethiel and Erethdor were the first characters I wrote and even designed, so their stories aren't fleshed out fully within the game and lore so far... I hope to be able to expand more upon them in the future
As someone else mentioned here, Solak is of anima mundi but way less of a threat than say Telos or Vorago just based on his mindset and desire to protect. Powerful, but likely won't ever use it.
Merethiel and Erethdor however... (Pinch of salt with what I had/have planned for their story) These two tapped into darker and forbidden elven magics from the grimoire that Erethdor stole. A type of magic so incredibly dark and comes at a massive cost to the user and the world, by this I mean, to use the magic, the user needs to tap into the earth or nature around them.

So, Solak is just a being of Anima Mundi, on the same conceptual level as Telos or Vorago. Telos is definitely more powerful, canonically, resting within the Heart of Gielinor. But Solak was there to defend The Lost Grove, because of the power sealed within "the heart of the tree." Guthix found him, and appointed him a Guardian of Guthix, and Seren sent 4 elves to go help out. Two of these elves were Merethiel and Erethdor. Erethdor learned of the heart and wanted it for himself, was defeated, and his mind snapped in two, one half going within Solak and one into the stone Merethiel holds.
I wouldn't put Merethiel or Erethdor in any great power rankings, besides being ancient elves. Solak is originally between Telos and Vorago, in my mind, and his corruption wouldn't do much to affect this.
