Could you update the Wiki about you. I would love to read about your accomplishments while on the teams.

I love reading them. It is history.

I was telling the wiki admins last night I'm a lazy git when it comes to wiki editing. It's not my thing. :P

But I can give you my work history if you like.

I started with training. That was great fun. Then I moved on to Tempoross project with Mod Squid leading it. I helped do the rewards system, a bunch of QoL and general small jobs like implementing doors, dialogue, the reward functions themselves, etc. Then I moved onto enhanced client project. My biggest focus there was re-usable systems. I made the 'helper' system, implemented the agility tracking system, helped with a lot of big data collection tasks (like marking every gosh darn agility shortcut and every single item with a 'charge' associated with it), then I eventually built the XP tracker system. Finally, I helped implement a few leagues fragments in my last month. I then chose to leave. I'll most likely be finishing off work on the enhanced client this month before handing over.

It'll always be like this, because at the end of the day, you guys love OSRS. You want to predict what's happening with the company that owns OSRS, and the people working on the product.

Some people's views are skewed because they feel utterly shafted by what the game offers, or doesn't offer them. That skepticism then turns to cynicism, and then it comes out on social media.

And truth is, that's absolutely f*cking fine. It's justified to feel the things you do. It's justified to voice your opinions, concerns. Wanna doomsay? Doomsay. You might be wrong. Here, these guys were wrong.

Love for the game comes out in so many different ways. The complaints, the anger, the frustration and the conspiracies are all part of that. And that's okay.

Yeah. "We won't be renewing your contract next month" situation or something.

Just gonna go ahead and dispel this one. I was not fired, nor laid off, nor did a contract end. I chose to leave, and accepted an offer elsewhere.

It's pretty common to try to read things we write on the internet and try to understand what's going on. All people are like that, at the end of the day. Trying to understand the world around us from information available. Twitter's 280 character limit doesn't really help with that clarity. :)

Husky: Does the XP Tracker in the Steam client account for crazy numbers like if the player gains over 100m xp in a couple minutes?

Me: No, but who the hell would do that?

This was a fun little tactic back in 2014. People would 6 hour splash on rats quite a lot, and to clear up the game, a change was made that allowed 6 hour splashing only on PvP worlds.

It was quite fun running around those worlds with nothing but a cat and a dragon dagger(p++), finding a player and getting a nice big stack of mind runes. :D

Like do y’all gather around the conference table and just geek about runs like this?

I haven't gotten to see the guys in the office very much, but two years ago when I was at playtests, a bunch of us playtesters and some jmods were watching xzact's low combat infernal cape on a phone while we were at the pub, so yeah!

How did you two wake up one day and say “You know what… I want to work for Jagex!” Lol. Not saying it’s a bad job because it’s a great one, just kind of random!

I was working for a company as a systems engineer. Great job, very happy there, with a small team. When the pandemic hit, we suddenly were at home, and that small team started to feel quite lonely. I questioned what I wanted in my future, at that point.

I'd previously applied to Jagex in 2019 and was a second choice candidate, so was asked to apply again at some point if I wanted to have another go. Casually browsing Jagex' jobs late last year, I found they were asking around for content developers again. It clicked in my brain "I want to be around lots of people, and develop something with widescale, immediate impact."

Sent in my application, got a call 45 minutes later, got the job 2 weeks later. 8 months on, very happy working on an awesome product with great people. :)

Congrats, dude, great gains! Hope you continue making the great strides. :)

The mindset of 'I'm wasting my life!' is really pervasive, not just here in the OSRS community but among gaming at large and I think comes from a sense of shame over how we spend our time. A lot of it really does come from societal pressure to be a certain type of human being. It's lovely to see the opposite attitude, where people say 'Actually, this is how I want to spend my time, and I'm okay being myself.' Interestingly, that attitude really seems to carry over to other parts of life, and result in gains there, too.

I hope you don't mind my own personal story with this game :D

Once upon a time, I spent 14-16 hours a day playing, and although I loved the game, it was something I felt a lot of shame over. I later 'quit' for a solid couple of year to 'improve myself' until I saw a friend playing and streaming her progress. When she got gains, I saw her with a smile on her face, sup...
