Most recently, he’s been championing the restoration of Golden Sands, a beloved Outpost that had fallen into ruin as part of Captain Flameheart’s nefarious schemes.

As the first official Mystery[www.seaofthieves.com] began to unfold on the Sea of Thieves, it was a shock to pirates sailing the seas last month when a skeleton appeared, unannounced, on the potentially appropriately named Sea Dog’s Rest. Boots, gloves and a hat suggested a victim, but the question for now was a simple one: who did this surprise skeleton belong to?

That’s right, as revealed in our singalong segment at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12th, the long-awaited promise of Captaincy is soon to be fulfilled in Sea of Thieves.

Season Seven arrives in July, and with it comes a whole set of Captaincy features that will not only allow you to name your ship and emblazon it on the crest for all to see, but customise the ship’s interior to your heart’s content and earn a whole host of new progression rewards too. The fate of Golden Sands Outpost hangs in the balance in Sea of Thieves’ fourth time-limited Adventure, ‘Lost Sands’. In a departure from previous Adventures, players can pick the path they wish to follow, either choosing to aid in the Outpost’s reconstruction or dooming it to be ever shrouded in ethereal mist.

The side with the most support at the end of the Adventure will determine the future of Golden Sands in Sea of Thieves, so weigh your options carefully! Out on the lawless Sea of Thieves, Outposts are the closest thing to civilisation, with any number of traders and tavern-keepers eager to help pirates empty their holds of treasure and kick back with a well-deserved grog.

Small wonder, then, that the unexpected shrouding of Golden Sands Outpost – previously one of the more charming and cheerful ports of call – was a loss felt by many, and proof that The Reaper’s Bones are determined to oust the Trading Companies once and for all.
