I'm glad Esports is popping off but that's not the game I play so until I see some actual big positive changes to the game, I'm not gonna keep my hopes up.

What is the big positive changes you're looking for?

I don't know specifically what Faker said (re MMR) as I don't speak Korean so I'm dependent on translation, but just for clarity, this would be an issue with _matchmaking_ not MMR. MMR is simply a representation of your skill level, and while it's a factor in who you are matchmade with, it would not be the culprit causing his perceived disparity.

I also am unclear here what he's even referring to, as MMR/Matchmaking wouldn't factor into snowballing - unless the system was completely broken and it just stacked a bunch of high skilled players against low skilled players, which it should not do.

The cinematics say it all, Valorant got a good cinematic with Revelation, plus the Lotus and new Skin trailers. Saw so many content creators watching and hyping up the Valorant characters in the cinematic. Maybe because it’s a smaller roster.

League got a Flyover of Summoner’s Rift that screams Intern project, even though it might not have been.

A league season cinematic with some actual unknown lore would be nice, with animated league characters. It doesn’t matter if the characters are new or old, but seeing some lore aspect or whatever wouldn’t be bad.

Also this is a side note, but can League actually get a good battle pass? Something that rewards us over an entire season instead of something we buy over and over again. Especially now that the season is splitting up. Fortnite and Valorant and OW have I feel genuinely better passes that don’t make you immediately grind in a period of a couple weeks.

Having a pass every event feels super...

When I glance at a game like Valorant or Wild Rift, I see a game that's packed with polish in every corner. Everything is up to modern standards.

But when I look at League of Legends, I see the poor condition of the engine and client, along with the state that a lot of older champions are in with their low-quality models and animations, and then think to myself "this is being neglected."

Neglect usually occurs because of a lack of attention and care, something that makes it easy to jump to the conclusion that Riot isn't paying as much attention to League of Legends as their other IPs.

So it doesn't necessarily matter if Riot is giving more attention to champion development, skin development and balancing than the entirety of Valorant. For as long as there are aspects of the game whic...

As I said, everything has a cost, and everything takes time. If you want to update an old champ, that means that you have to take away headcount from making new content, or fixing something else, or building X new feature. I can't speak as much to say, giving a new skin to Zilean, or doing a VGU for another champ, except to reiterate the same point. In tech, you always have to weigh tradeoffs. I've worked for many years in software development, and you wouldn't believe some of the debt that exist, or bugs that exist, that just never get addressed. I think the same thing applies here.

In regards to communication, I didn't even know that sub existed btw, but I think much of our comms are available on social media. You can follow most of our designers, producers, etc. on twitter, or watch August on Twitch, or watch our dev videos, or read our blog, and get a lot of this info. There isn't necessarily a one stop shop, but you can pretty easily find it if you google for it.

I appreciate the post. But I just want to give you a piece of my perspective (and possibly others). I have faith in riot to deliver a great product for us league fans but it just doesn’t sit well with many people when we see Valorant, TFT, Wild Rift getting all this attention (not to mention the butchering of the LCS), and us League fans left out to fry with little to no communication for quite some time. Moving forward being transparent would be extremely appreciated by the fans and beneficial to you all at Riot as well. I hope that makes sense.

What attention is Valorant, TFT, and Wild Rift getting that League isn't? And what communication are you looking for?

I will echo Reav3's comments. Covid was hard for so many people around the world, from the derailing of the supply chain and our healthcare system, to the millions of people who lost family members. We (Riot) weren't immune from this. I can also say that what Reav3 said about big things happening in the future is 100% true - I've seen them. I can't share them, nor would I want to until the time is right. You can take that for what you will, and for those who don't believe us, maybe you will when they're here.

Rioters cares so much about League, even the Evil Riot Leaders who supposedly care the least. Arcane, Wild Rift, even Valorant, wouldn't exist without League. We're just coming off the biggest Worlds to date, where we had more viewership than the Olympics, and so to think that after that moment we've just packed up our bags and given up is really strange to me. If anything, it's a redoubling of our efforts. What people who aren't at Riot, and who haven't worked on sof...

/u/Riot_Siraris, could you please do the same for the item recommendation system? Its really bad that its always delayed by a patch as whenever a big item change happens players still build the old item often because its the comfort first recommendation. It would be way better if recommendations were data driven with the last x days of data and or y games of data.

Hope I'm making sense with what I am asking about.

So it is driven by last X days of data, it is just not updated until the next patch. I wouldn't worry too much about it because again, we update every 2 weeks, and it takes time for the meta to sort out after changes. It's possible we will change this in the future, but there are a lot of implications. Like I said, you can introduce a change that causes a deviation that might result in worse outcomes for some time until things sort themselves out.

So if Jax should build divine sunderer after Patch 12.100, it will recommend this in 12.101 after 2 weeks. After that point, it should be accurate for some time as we're not constantly changing items and champs.

Really concerned about this being susceptible to popularized influence. Like if a streamer or big name player popularized some wild, off pick, even though its not actually what's good on x/y/z champ, and gets everyone else spamming it now newer players, or people new to the champ, will be mislead into picking it.

Check my update :)

It will take mode into account, but I can't guarantee that it will give you a particular runeset.

Like PoM is a must pick in 90% of mana champs

Recommendations will be updated daily so don't worry about using outdated recs!

Edit: Sorry guys just updating, this is not actually accurate. Rune/ability upgrades will still be lagged a patch, but we're working on a solution to get them updating more regularly. For now, though, it shouldn't have much impact and will prevent anomalous recommendations. It will likely take some time for the meta to sort out after a new patch as well, and we can do some manual adjustments if necessary.
