We released the v8.20.1 client update today, March 29 at 5AM ET(0900 UTC) to fix some issues that appeared after releasing the v8.20 update. You can find full details below on all the fixes included in this client update.

Battle Royale

• Fixed an issue where spectator numbers would not update, even after the spectator had left the game.
• Fixed an issue that caused players to be unable to queue in the correct division level in the Arena game mode when the party leader was in a lower division.
• Fixed an issue which caused the Poison Dart Trap to be hidden behind certain wall assets.
• Fixed an issue where trap placement on walls would be blocked if a stair structure was attached to the wall.
• Fixed an issue that prevented players from getting removed from the Baller when hit by a Boogie Bomb.
• Fixed an issue preventing friend invites from displaying in the social panel.

Battle Royale

Season 8 has arrived and a monstrous volcano has appeared! Freed from the Ice King’s castle, the now-powerful Prisoner has brought fire and flame to Fortnite and its islands. Pirates, Ninjas and a ship load of new fighters will tussle over treasure, battle with Pirate Cannons and uncover legendary loot. For those daring enough to explore, the new Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Steps locations are just a jump away with the help of Volcanic Vents. There are tons of new areas to explore and secrets to uncover. This season, X marks the spot!

To wrap up our Competitive Fortnite three-part blog series, we are sharing the first details on the Fortnite World Cup and the $100,000,000 competitive prize pool for 2019.
 

Fortnite World Cup

The road to the Fortnite World Cup begins with ten weekly Online Open qualifiers running from April 13 to June 16. Each week $1,000,000 will be on the line for eligible* Fortnite players, with payouts distributed broadly.

The top 100 Solo players and the top 50 Duos teams from around the world will join us for the Fortnite World Cup Finals in New York City July 26-28 with a $30,000,000 prize pool up for grabs! Each one of those players will be guaranteed at least $50,000 and the Fortnite World Cup Solo Champion will walk away with $3,000,000.

Heya folks,

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about stats so let's dive right in. In the v7.40 update, we’ll be turning on Stats v2.

What does that mean?

The current stats system database couldn’t scale properly for all platforms so we’re going to upgrade the existing one to include a variety of info and track player progress better over time.

Here are a couple of new things arriving with the update to stats:

• The ability to track all of your play in one place and view it across all platforms.
  • <!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}--> All of your previously earned stats will be added in and displayed in-game.
    • There may be a few minor edge cases where a small amount of data could be missing....

A big change is coming soon for Save the World V-Buck Llamas... Here’s the scoop. We believe it’s important that the Llamas you buy have what you want, and that you can earn awesome items just for logging in and playing

Since launch, we've been refining the way you expand your item collection. We previously introduced loot drops, the ability to directly acquire any non-event item through the Collection Book, Llama dupe prevention, as well as gameplay-based event rewards, and now we're ready to take the next big step.

Introducing "X-Ray" Llamas! Previously known as V-Buck Llamas, X-Ray Llamas will now show you the contents before you purchase it. Not interested in what the Llama offers? Simply wait until the daily store refresh and there will be a new selection.

Starting in update v7.30, any Llama available in the V-bucks store will show it's contents without requiring a purchase.

Heya folks,

A while back we ran a test for glider re-deploy. There was a very split response on the mechanic which revealed some positives as well as some negatives. We removed the mechanic from default modes, but feel an alternative implementation will help in solving some of those negatives and better suits our goals.

The goal with the item is to provide mobility and utility, but in a form that can be balanced and iterated upon. By implementing glider redeploy as an item we can iterate on multiple different levels (i.e. redeploy height, movement speed, drop chance, charge count), including inventory slot tension.

Quick overview on how Glider Redeploy will work in v7.20:

• The Gliders item will take up an inventory slot and can be found from normal loot sources.
• Activate Glider Redeploy as you normally would, you do not need to select the item.
  • Each deploy will remove one charge, when all charges are used the item disappea...

We communicated an incorrect end date for the 14 Days of Fortnite event and did not feel the Equalizer Glider compensation was the right approach. After further discussion, we’ve decided to bring back this event early next week through January 15 at 3 AM ET(0800 UTC). We’ll also be enabling some of the most popular Limited Time Modes that were available during the event.

Players who were unable to complete those Challenges will be able to earn all of the rewards they may have initially missed out on. All Challenges will be available to complete for the entire duration of the event. Unfortunately, progress on partially completed challenges has to be reset.

It’s time to kickoff a #FortniteBlockParty! The most exciting and imaginative islands built in Creative will be featured on the “The Block” in the Battle Royale map. Can you create something that will inspire the world? Will you become Fortnite Famous?
