Hey Folks,

We recently added a 60 FPS option on compatible iOS devices!  (iPad Pro will follow with the next patch)
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR

We’ve gone through extensive tests to make sure the game can maintain such high frame-rates for a number of matches without overheating or deteriorating the overall experience over the course of a match. High frame rates are great, but if it’s only for a few minutes it doesn’t make a lot of sense.
NOTE: Playing at 60 FPS will drain your battery more quickly, so for now, the default setting remains 30 FPS and you’ll need to enable 60 FPS in the settings menu.

However, we know our Android players are curious about whether they’ll see the same improvements.

While we don’t curre... Read more

Heya folks,

In our previous blog about Account Linking we stated:

“In November, we’re going to release an “account merging” system so you can combine multiple console-linked accounts to transfer Battle Royale cosmetic item purchases, lifetime wins, V-Bucks, and Save the World campaign access.”

Due to some ongoing technical concerns, we will be delaying the Account Merge feature until early next year. We want to make sure that this process is thoroughly tested and working properl...

Please note, gifting is not available on iOS devices because Apple's policies prohibit it.

How it works
When you go into the Item Shop and choose an item to purchase, you will now be presented with two options: one saying "Purchase Items" and another saying "Buy As A Gift". Heya folks,

Two weeks ago we began our Glider Re-deploy test in default modes. We did not live up to expectations of quickly iterating on the mechanic and communicating plans.

We are disabling Glider Re-Deploy in all default modes starting in v6.30.
It will remain in the larger team modes (e.g. Soaring 50s, Disco Domination etc.) and Playground to allow ongoing experimentation with this feature.

We really appreciate all of the engaged discussion and encourage you to keep the feedback coming!

Hey Fortnite Friends,

We mentioned in our latest State of Development that we had some Front End improvements on the way. We’re excited to announce that these changes will be coming in the 6.30 update. Let’s hop in!

Homebase

When we approached updating the front end, we set out with a lot of goals: we wanted the UI to be easier to understand and navigate, while also leaving room to grow in the future. Additionally, we wanted the front end to feel integrated with the rest of the game by giving it more life and character. In the revamp, many of the menu options now represent locations w... Heya folks,

Earlier this year we launched on iOS and more recently opened up Android to everyone. We have many important features and updates in development that we’re excited to share with you. Get the scoop on our ongoing dev efforts!

CUSTOMIZABLE HUD

We want you to have more control over your HUD, and an important step in that direction is to allow players to decide which elements are active or disabled at any given moment. We've added editable visibility settings for most HUD elements as well as grid snapping. Every HUD element has three states for the three modes of gameplay (building, editing and combat).

CONTROLS

We’re doing a big quality of life pass on many of the HUD elements. Small things that can dramatically impact the usefulness of the UI, like building slots being drag and droppable which could block other inputs or the wood resource button disabling autorun. We brought...

Hey Fortnite friends,

Since our last State of Dev we’ve been heads down on learning from our recent updates, working on major changes to prepare for free to play, and continuing to add to Save the World. We released the first part of the Canny Valley quest line, added new enemies and celebrated our first birthday! Let’s get started.

No Free to Play in 2018

We decided to move the free-to-play launch of Save the World out of this year. We’re working on a broad set of features, reworks, and backend system scaling we believe are needed to go free-to-play. Save the World has grown consistently since our launch in July 2017 and Fortnite overall has experienced unprecedented growth. Scaling up for the legions of player heroes who will be joining the fight is key to providing an excellent experience. This applies to all of our players, old and new, so we’re taking the time to get this right.

Heya folks,

We’ve heard your feedback on Audio and have some updates! Tactical audio cues are incredibly important to the core gameplay, and our goal is for you to be able to consistently rely on audio information to survive. Here are some things we’re starting to develop and test internally:

Season 6 - v6.00
  • Footstep sounds
    • More contrast between above/below steps.
      • We want this to be easier to determine on the fly, especially while other sounds are playing (gunfire, harvesting, etc).
    • More high frequency audio content to improve your ability to pinpoint the location of steps, and to prevent them from getting drowned out during intense combat.
  • Glider audio tells
    • Increased awareness when an enemy is gliding in your vicinity.
      • Doppler-based glider audio for incoming threats. This will create that “car passing by” effect when a player ...

What’s up Fortnite community,

With Season 6 right around the corner, competition is about to heat up! Details about the Fall Skirmish below.

Beginning in October, we’re opening up inclusive competition, where everybody can play and compete. To make that possible we’ve had to harden and scale our systems and infrastructure. For example, August was Fortnite’s biggest month yet, with 78.3 million of you showing up to play. This exposed weak points and allowed us to make targeted improvements to critical systems, such as stats and servers. The Summer Skirmish also, as you all probably noticed, highlighted problems with performance and spectating, which we’ve been working on ever since. We’re excited about kicking off the new competition system and we’ll have details dropping in the weeks ahead.

On to the Fall Skirmish! In our ...

Heya folks,

We’re kicking off our Fall Skirmish next weekend awarding $10,000,000 in prize money across a 6-week series concluding at Twitchcon, October 26-28.

The new approach for Fall Skirmish will include both Competitive and Entertainment play formats. We’re looking to incorporate some of these new formats into our large-scale events in 2019. During Fall Skirmish, players will proudly represent themed teams and earn points based on their performances in both play formats. Each week will pose new challenges like white-knuckle ATK races, masterful golf outings, mini-games, and of course high skill competition every weekend.

Nearly 500 Fortnite community members earned cash prizes during the Summer Skirmish and we can’t wait to grow that number during Fall Skirmish. Keep an eye out for a follow-up blog next week for our week 1 format and team announcements. When we’re closer to TwitchCon we’ll drop all the details on the finale’s competitive format, a...
