If there's no style, setting the older version as default works like you said. When a style is set as default, it tries to add the newest printing it can be applied to and I can't see any way to also set the default printing.

I had the same issue with [[Cauldron Familiar]]. I personally find the JMP common set symbol extremely ugly while the ELD uncommon set symbol looks nice. If I have to use the JMP version of a card, seeing that set symbol annoys me every time I look at it, to the point I'd consider not using a style if that's necessary. Fortunately, I think I managed to make that one work by manually adding ELD copies with no style and then applying the style, but favoriting the style would add JMP copies instead since it's newer.
That reminds me of a related problem, which is that I often have 4 copies of an older version of a card but 1-3 copies of a newer version. If the favorited style applies to both, the game adds as many copies of the new version as I have before filling in the rest with the old version, so if I want them all the same, I have to remove all the new copies and increase the quantity of the old copies to 4.
Thanks for the background! For that related problem, if you click the little heart on the older version, that will set it as the preferred version and it should use that one by default
I'd be curious to see the split between Brawl and Standard Brawl. With the vast majority of players playing Standard and Limited, I'd expect Standard Brawl to have a much lower barrier to entry.
"Brawl" on the chart includes both. It's ~90% (Historic) Brawl and about 10% Standard Brawl

This may seem niche, but I specifically hope they fix this very particular bug where older cardstyles get applied with newer set symbols. You can see what I'm talking about here. I owned the Guilds of Ravnica Healer's Hawk cardstyle long before Foundations came out. But I am unable to use it without the FDN logo overwriting the GRN logo. (also the picker behaviour is mildly broken in general, as you can see).

Hey! We've debated internally about what the best answer here is. Sounds like you want to have the Depth Art with the GRN set symbol, not the FDN one? Any particular reason? Just because you like it better? (Understanding reasons/why helps us build better solutions)

We generally like to release new content as quickly as we can. In this case there was a holdup, and that kind of thing might happen again, but we don't expect it to happen generally

Yup! This is exactly right. Commander content will be releasing alongside the Alchemy drop in a few weeks. Once it does, all 10 commanders will be both craftable and available in some Brawl decks in the store

Are matchups done independently of clan?
Specifically (1) Is the matchmaking done from a common pool for all five sealed events? (2) Does the matchmaking system go out of its way to match you against someone whose pool is from a different clan (as seems to happen frequently in Arena "choose a deck" events), or are clan-mirrors allowed to happen at normal frequency?
All the different events go to the same matchmaking queue, and there are no lockouts or protections to prevent mirrors. So it will matchmake like any other sealed (mostly on your record), and your choice of clan won't affect what opposing clans you see
Click the mana from your mana pool when it's asking you to pay costs, don't click autopay.
This is the right answer - When you need to be very specific about what mana you spend, full control (or put a stop on the phase ladder) and then click the specific mana you want to pay
This is so cool!! Gets me really excited to play sealed this set!! Hopefully one clan doesn’t end up being way stronger then the rest though, that’d kinda suck
We're really excited to see how this plays out as well! This is the first time we've run a factionalized event like this on Arena, and we'll be watching carefully to see how this plays out. We've also built ourselves some safety levers we can pull if too much choice here ends up making things feel stale, like rotating which clans are available or swapping to a non-seeded event.

Hey, sorry this happened! This is certainly not intended, and we're trying to ensure the cards always stay clear of the UI. This gets tricky on mobile, because the variety of screen sizes and aspect ratios make for a lot of unique cases. What device were you playing on, so we can try to replicate this?
