Thanks for the clarity. Is there any chance we might see some type of flag for brawl decks that tells us what bracket that deck would fall into?

In general, we don't want to expose too much of the system that way, because it will lead to people gaming it, and that kind of gaming leads to worse player experiences overall. We talked more about that in this article: MTG Arena Announcements – June 3, 2024 (wizards.com)

Hey all! Just to clarify what I was talking about today, the four bucket system isn't literally how Arena Brawl works - it's more nuanced and conceptual. As I even mentioned on stream, I just learned about this myself as we dug into this concept so I might have been a little off. Just want to avoid you all going down rabbit holes that aren't quite right. Hope this helps clarify and happy Brawling!

Mods, this is actual-Gavin-Gavin, and worthy of flair

I think it also cares about wait time, so the longer you wait the more likely you are to be paired out of your bracket to reduce wait times.

This is accurate. All matchmaking on Arena (or any game, really) is a compromise between finding a good pairing and a quick pairing. The longer it's taking to find a match, the wider it can go.

Yes, actually!

Unfortunately, we moderators get to pick our hand, and we always have a Force of Will + Blue Card, no matter the format.

Wait, you can what?

Thanks for the great report! (Video of a minimal repro against Sparky is a real pro move.) We'll get engineers looking at this promptly

Oh hey! That's my old boss. And, randomly, one of the only 2 or three orange names I've played against in the wild. There's a lot fewer of us than there are of you, so it's always pretty rare to meet one.

Thanks guys for looking into it.

Also, I removed Blinkmoth from my BU ninja deck to make it usable in historic play and now it won't appear in any searches.

That's expected, unfortunately. 2XM was inadvertently removed from the list of sets that should be legal in Historic, so it's no longer showing up when you look for Historic cards

There hasn't been any intentional change here. Thanks for the call out, and we're looking into it.

Edit: This should now be fixed; sorry about the disruption! (If you're in-client, you may need to restart it to pick up the fix)

Sorry about this! There was an error that prevented matchmaking for about 20 min earlier. Everything should be back to normal now

Thanks for the report! It looks like there is something going wrong here, so we've temporarily disabled these bundles in the store. We'll get them fixed up and get you the styles you purchased as quickly as we can!

Ugin, Nexus and Field are still banned despite being perfectly okay by today's power level. Tbh, Oko probably is too.

I really doubt they'll ban anything. Nadu is annoying but not egregiously strong compared to other hell queue commanders.

There's basically no overlap between commander and brawl. In brawl ...

Ugin and Field weren't power level bans; they were banned for ubiquity. They went into basically every deck, which ended up making games feel more similar. One of the goals of Brawl as a format is to offer wide variety, and Ugin and Field worked against that.

It's unlikely it'll ever get banned. Case in point, Golos is banned in Commander but is perfectly playable in Brawl. They'll probably keep increasing Nadu's power level until it's in the depths of hell queue so it doesn't bother 'normal' decks ever again.

Yes, this is basically right. No plans to ban Nadu, and all the evidence suggests we can use the matchmaking to keep him constrained to pairing with people who are also running high-power commanders.

Sounds like this was just a bug. Arena keeps a file on your device of which bans you've seen, so it can know which ones are new. This sounds like that file went missing or failed to load, and so it showed you all the bans (bolt, ritual, etc.) as if they were new.

For at least one internal tester in this state, they were able to force-kill the app, restart their phone, and then successfully launch. This was just one report, though; your mileage may vary.

Hope yall have a good day

If you all are having a bad day, we're having a bad day. Or, at least, a busy day trying to fix it. Working hard with the engineers to understand what's up

We're looking into this. It would be really interesting to hear from players who are/aren't crashing:
A) Are you on Android?
B) What OS version are you on?

Edit: We now believe we have this issue solved with a new update for Android players. Apologies for the disruption here!

International Yargle Day (where Yargle wears a beret), is celebrated on March 9th, because of DD/MM/YY date formats.

Thanks for the report! We think that this was a result of not everything getting fully scaled out in this morning's release, and that it should be fixed now. Please let us know if you're continuing to see these problems.
