people could start to, and appear to already be abusing this new system purely out of spite.

if that bad ping issue that has been plaguing the RL servers for MONTHS now isn't fixed, or at the very least isn't accounted for by the automated side ...

Hey there, if you'd like to DM me your friend's username, we can take a look at the ban. Also, if you want to share screenshots or videos of match latency, I'd be happy to look further into them. However, I'd like to clarify some facts about our banning systems so we can clear up any confusion.

We do not have a system that bans players for griefing or match throwing that is purely report-based. We also do not have intentions of creating a ban system that relies purely on a number of reports, especially not without crucial pieces of information that solidify a pattern of behavior. Typically, one-off events are not worthy of a ban so the occasional accidental own-goal won't result in any sort of action.

Ideally, you would use Unsportsmanlike Conduct or Cheating as the reason, but remembering to report is the best strategy!

Like u/pikunderscored mentioned, now that players can link separate platform accounts, this is less of an issue compared to how it was in the past.

Hey all,

I just wanted to jump in and add a quick bit of insight.

Like we mentioned in the Community Update, we are working on some new approaches to how we handle Unsportsmanlike Conduct reports, which includes cases of smurfing.

So what are we hoping to achieve? Our goal is to quickly identify accounts playing at levels noticeably higher than their rank and then take an appropriate action. Most of our initial efforts will be focused on the lower skill levels like Bronze and Silver. We also hope to be able to effectively identify smurfing at all skill levels but this gets increasingly tricky at higher skill levels.

One last thing to note, please report players! The more you report, the better we will be able to understand what is and isn't bad...

Is he on Xbox? If he is, he should try turning his Xbox on and off, or even power cycling. Some players have dealt with updates not appearing until they restart their consoles.
