I've heard of friends list issues when you have more than 100, but you're obviously not at that point. I had suggested you try a different account as a test, but now I see you already tried that so instead, try rebuilding your database with the steps here and restore your licenses with these instructions.
Does your son have a smaller friends list by chance? I'm still wondering if there's an issue with how many friends you have.
Thanks for the response. Try deleting your personal saved data. You may lose settings changes you've made and any other offline saves. Normally that is all downloaded from the cloud, but I can't guarantee that. Go to Settings/Storage/System storage/Saved Data. Locate Apex Legends and delete the saved data. Let me know if that makes a difference or not.
