Came here to say that we explicityly said "sometime soon" (and in the update notes wrote "...in preparation for Duels becoming..."), but other members of the community already did that.
To make it even more clear: I can confirm, Duels will be permanent with the next update, which is currently slated for end of February. ;)

Thanks Dani. I really appreciate it. I am really excited for the roadmap the team has planned out. Especially Masteries and the Gear rework planned for next update. Hopefully it all goes to plan
