How does this look? The owner of the Axie keeps a part of the SLP earned, and the player does. All of a sudden your 75$/day become 37.5$ - or 2.5$ become 1.25$ of daily income.

SLP peaked at north of 0.30$/SLP in summer 250 x 0.30 = 75$/day, which means the initial investment is amortized in 3-4 days.

That is *if* the currency is stable. Which it isn't.

End of January 2022 the value of SLP dipped below 0.01$/SLP. Instead of 75$/day all of a sudden you'd earn 2.5$/day and it would take 90-120 days to pay off the initial investment.

Now: who is playing Axie? The TL;DR is: "players" in wealthy countries have the purchase power to buy Axies. They are the minority. Most players (share of DAU) comes from low-income countries or countries with hyper inflation, ex. Venezuela.

By winning games you can win currency, which is capped/day and has value in the real world, based on demand. Realistically an average player earns around 200-250 SLP (or Smooth Love Portions).

In order to play the game you require a team of Axies. 3, in fact. How do you get them? Well, you have to put money on the table. About 75-100 USD for a "regular" Axie, so 225-300 USD initial investment.

I am trying (!) to keep an open mind about the possibilities and impact of the blockchain on gaming, even though the loud enthusiasts out there and examples of companies pushing the topic (ex. Ubisoft, etc.) do their best to deter me from truly becoming interested in the topic:
