Did you mean to post this in Bug Reports, perhaps?

This looks like it is on MacOS, is that right?

And, you see our launcher okay but this happens when you hit PLAY there? Or you never see our launcher?

What happens if you run ck3.app directly from Finder?

Starbird said: The game is unplayable for me now. Crashes at shorter and shorter intervals. I play on a mac. I have uninstalled using Steam. Deleted the CK3 folder and all its contents in Documents. I then re-booted before doing a fresh install. I completed a fresh install from Steam. I have all of the DLC, all enabled, and no mods. Log files from the "crashes" folder are attached.

All help much appreciated!
That will be an unrelated problem, since recent patches this game has been crashing on MacOS, unfortunately! I believe there are re... Read more

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Legion4 said: it'd at least be nice if the game could have a warning when this happens.
Probably worth lodging it in Bug Reports then. You mention the MS cloud so I assume this is the Gamepass edition of the game; be sure to mention that there too.

For an Ironman campaign, you choose at the start whether it will be stored locally or in the cloud. That setting never changes.

For non-IM games you can choose each time you do a manual save whether it is cloud or local.

I'm not aware of any circumstance when a local save gets 'converted' (uploaded?) into a cloud save!

If GeForce Experience is running, unload that before starting the game - it can override the game's own settings.

Yes, I'm afraid this machine does not have enough system memory to run the game, and the CPU AND video system are below the requirements:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-2120 / AMD® FX 6350
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 660 (2GB) / AMD® Radeon™ HD 7870 (2GB) / Intel® Iris Pro™ 580 / Intel® Iris® Plus G7 / AMD® Radeon™ Vega 11
You were lucky it ran at all before, but it simply will not now. You could revert to a game version from way back then, in the Steam Betas tab for this game.

Failing that, I hope you have access to a machine that meets the minimums.

Sorry for the bad news!

So you are back to how these were set up before, but are still getting that Steam runtime communication error" ? Because that makes no sense ...

Make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that and try the game/launcher there - does that help?

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:

b1gdrum said: I tried the windows admin for the .exe files (I didn't do ck3.exe as you said) and now the game is saying "Steam runtime communication error" and doesn't seem to be connected to steam while running
Remove that setting from each of the .exe files in turn, I think one of them might be getting this - IIRC it is dowser, but it could be bootstrapper.

75c is up there, but not quite at the point that problems normally start, 80c. It never ever gets up there?

And it is unusual to see CPU hotter than the GPU in our games. What are the idle temps?

Firstly, get yourself an antivirus app.

All those games use the same installation of the same launcher. So yes, if one has a launcher problem they all will.

What AV do you use?

Did you try the Windows Admin thing, for the launcher .exe files only?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play, OR just before it crashes if it does not last that long.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

And what fps are you seeing in the game now, anything over 60?

Then I guess we didn't except all those .exe files in there somehow. Never mind.

Is the situation now as it was originally here - still crashing randomly if you now start a new unmodded campaign?

If you turn Controlled folder Access off again now, do you still get those access errors?

Divine said: I would suggest to everyone at this point to do a full re-install of the game.
Here is that process:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods act... Read more

Krilato said: I could not find the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
In the Windows search box type Ransomware. Enable Controlled Folder Access if disabled, then go into the Apps Allowed Through list and add those .exe files.

Couldn't find the "disable full screen optimizations" on the ck3.exe properties either.
Then you have probably right clicked on a folder or some other file - all .e... Read more
