All of the keys that were erroneously revoked have been restored, if you redeemed any Early Access key at any point you should be good to go. If not, please get in contact with us and we'll be sure to sort you out. We've got more information here: https://www.new.playdeadmatter.com/news/key-redemption-issues

If you had a Closed Alpha Key, these were revoked, this is normal for games that were in Closed Alpha. We made heaps of noi...

They posted on Twitter that it was a mistake and they're working on it. I assume it was switched to a new AppID on Steam or something.

It was switched ages ago when we moved from CA to EA.

I backed the game, my keys not a referral.

You might want to stay up to date with your PR team they sent a message an hour after this went out saying that when they pulled the closed alpha keys they noticed that the release keys were labeled as "closed alpha keys"

It's mostly been me and a couple volunteers handling this, we're trying to keep everyone as informed as we possibly can even if it stings a little. We initially thought everyone's EA key got revoked but there's also confusion with the Closed Alpha keys.

What a joke, its was all a robbery, took in millions of dollars and gave people something worse than shit. Because with a big warm poopy it will function as expected you can throw it or use it to compost. While this game is only a waste of money and storage space. Your a big lie, I redeemed my Alpha key, years back.

Everyone should see this dude is going to make to where no one can play the game and then he's gonna remove it from steam. So it and him can disappear While he keeps all the money that he made nothing out of.

If you redeemed a Closed Alpha key, then yes, those got revoked because that version of the game was replaced with the Early Access keys. Apologies for the confusion on this one.

This wasn't true for me, redeemed my steam key in 2020 after purchasing the rad suit edition and it was still revoked from my steam account.

That's because your key was a Closed Alpha key, we had to swap over to a different set of keys for Early Access.

Well, forgive me for still being skeptical but an old saying about leopards and spots comes to mind.

As a Kickstarter backer who observed the absolute shit show that was the launch and subsequent customer-indifferent (if not customer-hostile) actions of QI since then, I guess my big question is: what has really changed?

Because I've also worked as a (non-game) software developer since the 90s, and I know that while shitty developers contribute to buggy products, shitty management leads to terrible ones. And QI seems to reek of the latter.

Are these people still in place? If so, why should we assume anything will change? At the moment, all I see are promises heaped upon the corpses of older promises.

We had a change in management after the Closed Alpha launched, it didn't go well. I'd rather work on making the game better rather than thinking about the horrid dynamic that we had to deal with.

Can confirm they're not with the studio anymore.

Seriously! I went straight to this subreddit just to check if I was the only one. What was the point of paying the some 30-40 bucks for the early backing if we weren't going to keep access to the game???! We did not pay for the privilege of early access, we paid to get that and the game that was promised!

There is either something we are missing or there is some legal boundaries breaking and rug pulling happening here.

EDIT:

I did miss something. They are addressing it.

Cheers for updating the post. I apologize for the issue and hope to get this resolved asap.

Well that message is vague but it is pretty shitty that they revoked everyone's access and haven't really announced if they gave up on the game or not. But I guess that's how a lot of kick starters go, people with big dreams but no drive to see it through.

It's because we initially thought we revoked all of the Early Access keys, some did get caught but if you never had a copy of Dead Matter or just a copy of the Closed Alpha it worked as intended.

People that redeemed Early Access keys before the 9th of January this year are also unaffected.

Also, first reddit post in years, woohoo.

This is correct, but OP's comment implies that they already have access to the closed alpha

You can still request one by contacting the same email address.

Perhaps there was some kind of mixup? Apologies if so. Go ahead and shoot an email to the team's support staff at [email protected], and I'll let them know as well.

Yeah there's an inventory pack on the UE marketplace that supposedly isn't very original. I wonder where they took inspiration from.

Vlogs are something the team would like to make more of at some point, but can't say for sure. I believe the blogs are usually much easier to fit in with scheduling.

As the assets are still in flux at this stage of the game, there's still quite a bit to be changed before we lock in anything with assets. I'll also note, because there appears to be some misinformation here, that the norm is typically not to credit the authors of assets from storefronts.

The license on most storefronts is for the asset as a clean piece of work, without any artist name attached. In some cases this is because it's not purely their work that has been purchased, and the artist may be using art they purchased from somebody else as a basis for their work or had others contribute to the work they created or the work was done as a collaboration. In other cases it's because their name has not been properly attached to the work. As well, in some legal jurisdictions it can raise issues to credit individuals without their express permission.

All that said, we will be looking at crediting any people we can for their asset work that is used in Dead Ma...

We do. Like many studios, we purchase assets from time to time from third party artists. Some of these were purchased/included as placeholders until we move forward with our own tailor-made assets to fill that role, and serve as a kind of testing placeholder. Others were purchased for use outright - it's very much a case-by-case thing.
