The Streisand effect is when someone attempts to censor, remove, or suppress information, and it has the unintended consequence of increasing awareness. Maybe if you only consider the term via it's absolute most strictest possible definition, but regardless of how much they are downvoted, posts like these increase awareness of it, and posts like these are only being made because of the outrage about it.

I'm not saying your banning of the dude was the cause for it, but its the Internet "interneting", someone does something, a few people react to it, a few people make a fuss about that reaction and how they shouldn't have reacted, and their outrage is what triggers a massive wave of people doing that very thing.

Pretty much. It's only being made worse because of the Streisand effect, where the people yelling to "stop making such childish jokes and grow up already" are ironically only drawing more attention to it, causing it to keep living when it may have possibly died out if they hadn't.

I think the problem a lot of people have is transparency. First, it's not clear what rule the posts are breaking. You also only warned one individual, in a very vague way that could even be construed as a joke, instead of making a pinned post or elaborating in any way, shape or form. I've had a user message me that they were banned for making a similar post to this one, with no warning, and no follow up explanation, and I imagine there's a few more as well.

Secondly, and this is coming from experience in other subreddits: when a dev is active in a subreddit, it can breed resentment from the user base. Typically because either A) the common complaints made by that subs users are ignored or B) the uncommon complaints/vocal minority are taken seriously. I'd say GSG is moreso in column A. I'm not saying either thing is necessarily bad, but when the dev team is not listening to complaints, not giving clear and concise reasons why they aren't, and actively moderating the sub all...

Every once in a while you'll get these kinds of posts which try to make an us vs them scenario. People lose sight of the spirit of this game/community and hop on the bandwagon of raging against the powers that be

Best way to handle it is to limit what you say in response because people will just continue to fish for a response to validate their efforts to get attention. I'm sure most people would understand ignoring a warning and continuing to repost warrants moderation

p.s. totally biased here because those posts were cringe and I'm glad to see them gone

Yeah, just from like 15 minutes of browsing this sub it seems pretty overly-positive, to the point where I've yet to see anything remotely close to criticism.
