Maybe if you only consider the term via it's absolute most strictest possible definition, but regardless of how much they are downvoted, posts like these increase awareness of it, and posts like these are only being made because of the outrage about it.

I'm not saying your banning of the dude was the cause for it, but its the Internet "interneting", someone does something, a few people react to it, a few people make a fuss about that reaction and how they shouldn't have reacted, and their outrage is what triggers a massive wave of people doing that very thing.

But we’re not trying to have something removed from the internet, we’re reducing the amount of spam. The Streisand Effect is about wanting something specific removed completely but I digress. I get what you’re saying, and it’s the same cycle we’ve seen before, so it’s not unexpected. The good thing is that it’s also fostering new memes, which is desireable. (Also it creates engagement, which is kinda my job.)

Pretty much. It's only being made worse because of the Streisand effect, where the people yelling to "stop making such childish jokes and grow up already" are ironically only drawing more attention to it, causing it to keep living when it may have possibly died out if they hadn't.

That’s not really the Streisand effect. There’s nothing wrong with the meme. The issue was constantly spamming it here and other places.

On a positive note, people have gotten creative with it now, and that’s actually funny.

I forgot to flip the switch.

Oh sh*t, are we at a point where this needs to be explained?

How did you make this post? With a time machine?

Now that's a quality sh*tpost!
I'm going to have to ban you for using Reddit in light mode, though.

At this point, I'm just saying f*ck it and going to bed. Dip away.

I think the problem a lot of people have is transparency. First, it's not clear what rule the posts are breaking. You also only warned one individual, in a very vague way that could even be construed as a joke, instead of making a pinned post or elaborating in any way, shape or form. I've had a user message me that they were banned for making a similar post to this one, with no warning, and no follow up explanation, and I imagine there's a few more as well.

Secondly, and this is coming from experience in other subreddits: when a dev is active in a subreddit, it can breed resentment from the user base. Typically because either A) the common complaints made by that subs users are ignored or B) the uncommon complaints/vocal minority are taken seriously. I'd say GSG is moreso in column A. I'm not saying either thing is necessarily bad, but when the dev team is not listening to complaints, not giving clear and concise reasons why they aren't, and actively moderating the sub all...

I am aware that not everyone might get the context of a ban, which is why it's only temporary.
I'm not sure I know what you mean when you're saying we're not listening to complaints? Feedback is part of the point of why we made the subreddit, and since the community is important to us, that's not going to change - especially not based on a temporary ban due to sh*tpost spam. The post wasn't moderated because it's criticizing anything or revealing some great conspiracy. It's literally just the last straw in a long series of sh*tposts.

Informal, unenforced rule, but still. It's there for a reason.

You're getting the short version since it's 1AM here.

- It's not a rule
- You're applying a lot of context to that sentence, that's not really relevant here.
- I moderated a post literally reposting a post with a warning.
- Like I already said elsewhere, this has been spammed to several of our channels. I made it clear it wasn't okay.
- This subreddit is the official subreddit for Deep Rock Galactic. That's not hidden. There's no agenda or bias and it's pretty clear that this is our channel. We interact with people here all the time. We leave criticism up and comment on it.
- For a developer-run subreddit, we're pretty f*cking relaxed about a lot of things. You're not being policed.

You had multiple direct one liners pinned in there that were very 'i am in charge this is the order'

I see it's Soren being the face of the dev team in there now I'd recon that was a good PR move for a dev team moving into the spotlight

One I recall in particular was a comment you made when there was a free weekend. Some greybeards were trying to (once again) bring up the topic of being able to close off your lobby from getting people who click 'quick join' as many free players were not able to keep up in the Haz 4 and 5 lobbies

As per usual the cult of toxic positivity came to the defense of the game stating such a feature would be a waste of time yadaydayda

You made a direct statement along the lines of 'don't be mean and kick new guys, I shouldn't have to say this'

But like... if you guys got a server opt out or lock to promoted classes option like...

I'm honestly still not entirely sure what you mean. It seems your impression is very specific, which I find weird since I very rarely have to actively remind people to be kind to each other.
But in the context of the free weekend, it was a reminder that people are new and don't know what's going on. We try to foster a positive community, and while it's annoying that people new to the game are joining, there are ways to stop that from happening, or at least communicate what's going on. I agree that the system isn't optimal, though.
Not sure what you refer to with the witchhunting?

Every once in a while you'll get these kinds of posts which try to make an us vs them scenario. People lose sight of the spirit of this game/community and hop on the bandwagon of raging against the powers that be

Best way to handle it is to limit what you say in response because people will just continue to fish for a response to validate their efforts to get attention. I'm sure most people would understand ignoring a warning and continuing to repost warrants moderation

p.s. totally biased here because those posts were cringe and I'm glad to see them gone

While limited response being better is true, it's also not the way we want to do it. This thread is full of hot takes and people riling each other up over misunderstanding it. I'd like to nip that in the bud.

It's literally reposting the exact same sh*t INCLUDING the warning that was attached to it. What do you think the outcome would be?

Nah, some of you are cool, but... no.

This is the reason why the dev team, or any employees of any company associated with a game, should never, ever be moderators on their own game's subreddit.

That's a very narrow perspective, and flat-out wrong for many reasons. This is a pretty relaxed subreddit, but spamming sh*tposts, and completely ignoring the warning by reposting said sh*tpost again is dumb. Complaining about the person doing it getting a three-day vacation from posting here is also pretty dumb, but people seem to be jumping to conclusions that there is a ban spree going on.

Edit:
User reports

I think that proves my point very well.

"Going ham" is a pretty wild description for someone getting a light slap on the wrists for contributing to spamming a sh*tpost.

Yeah, just from like 15 minutes of browsing this sub it seems pretty overly-positive, to the point where I've yet to see anything remotely close to criticism. Not saying that being optimistic about a game is a bad thing, but it seems like people here are afraid to even mention anything negative about the game.

We get plenty of feedback on the new updates, both positive and negative. Both are equally good, and we use all of it to adjust the new content over the next updates.
