[2021] Lagging/stuttering after update.

Yoo mean the update of EU4 to 1.31.6 ? because that should not have affected performance at all, it was mostly just to add Epic store compatibility.

Or was this from the 1.30.x patches to the 1.31.x ones?  

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.

IF that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

so I only deleted the "/EU4 file and /EU4 folders" do i need to delete Steam folder? and Paradox interactive folders?

After moving any valued save games elsewhere, the idea is to completely delete those two folders and all their contents. Did you do that, or have trouble finding them, or what?

If you use Windows Defender as your antivirus app you do have it. In the Windows search box enter Ransomware. Enable Controlled Folder Access if disabled, then go to the Apps Allowed Through list and add eu4.exe to it.

I don't see any reason for particularly poor performance in those files. The 1.31.x patches are acknowledged by the developers to be slower than 1.30.x due to having added too many new provinces.

If you revery to 1.30.6 in the Steam Betas tab for the game, and test with a new test campaign, is that better? Or still poor?  

Right click on the game in your Steam Library, Properties, Betas. Older versions are listed there.  

The developers have acknowledged that the 1.31.x patches are slower than the 1.30.x ones, due to having added too many new provinces. Now that does not completely line up with your apparent experience that this only happened with 1.31.6 - 1.31.5 ought to have been just as slow, I believe!

How does 1.31.5 perform for you?
