You cannot deal crit hits by using melee weapons unless you carry guaranteed-crit scrolls.
As for the weapon part, we'd like to investigate into it.

I have the same weird Crashes happening to me too. The game runs perfectly and suddenly freezes with the sound looping in distinct noise.
This started happening about 6 months ago after a update to the game. Since then my computer gets crashed every time i try to play this particular game.

I have tried running the game in windowed/borderless mode. Have tried to lower my FPS to 60 from my 144 set by my monitor and V-sync enabled.

Really frustrating to have to abandon a game that I truly enjoy playing.
