I just want you guys to know, I also encountered this game crash/freeze when joining a match. But today I'll share on how I fixed this issue (well for me though and you can also give it a try).
It is simple, if you are running the game in the highest settings (ultra high, high, medium), try to tweak the overall graphics settings to low or ultra low. The change of graphics isn't noticeable after all. This solution fixed the problem for me. I'm not really sure if this is a 100% fix but it helped me experiencing game crash/freeze during a match.
For players who are already running the game in low settings and still having this issue, I suggest try tweaking some options like the screen resolution, vsync off, and etc.
