Anyway some thoughts and perspectives. I am looking forward to seeing everyone play the release tomorrow and I'm really excited to play it myself with some friends!

Increasing the world height to 320 and lowering to y -64. The performance improvements required to do this alone were a huge feat, not to mention the immense amount of rewriting needed to make sure everything worked correctly in negative Y coordinates.

Besides all that, I hope 1.18 is exciting for our players. It really does, and I cannot understate this, rewrite almost every aspect of terrain generation. 3D biomes + terrain and biome distribution are separated, resulting in natural variation I haven't seen since alpha days.

"1.18 has nothing, it's just world generation and bigger caves".

It doesn't really add any new items or blocks because all of those were in Part 1, hence the split. When people review these updates, it makes more sense to review both parts as one update, not two different ones.

It's interesting how people view 1.17 and 1.18. Sure in terms of release strategy they're "separate updates", but as pieces of content they realistically make up one update; just happens to be that parts of it are released at different times.

Worked on a script today to automate the ore distribution pic. Was debugging cuz it seemed to draw coal distribution wrong. Turned out it wasn't a bug in the script, it was a bug in the actual coal distribution! Lucky the release isn't until tomorrow :)

When Caves & Cliffs: Part II arrives tomorrow, who's to say what wonders those walls will reveal?

In terms of Minecraft: adding more upgrade paths is not a good idea for codebase complexity. It's "easy" to add options, but longterm it makes upgrading old worlds more and more complicated.

For those asking for an option to turn off chunk/biome blending on old and new chunk borders...
