Trading with friends is one of the cornerstone features of Pokémon, and it started at the very beginning with the first video games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, when a special cable was required to connect two Game Boy systems. So it’s probably not a surprise to say that Trainers from all over the world have eagerly anticipated a Pokémon trading feature since Pokémon GO was announced in 2015. Finally, after many iterations and thoughtful experiments, this feature—alongside a robust friend system—will soon start rolling out to Trainers around the world.

We’re excited to share brand-new ways to interact with your friends in Pokémon GO! The Friends feature will start rolling out to Trainers later this week, allowing you to connect with your real-life friends and keep track of their adventures in Pokémon GO. You’ll be able to send them items, earn bonuses—and even trade Pokémon!

In order to add a friend in Pokémon GO, you must first ask them to share their Trainer Code with you. To invite a Trainer to become your friend, simply enter their Trainer Code and then send them a request. If they accept, you’ll become friends, and you’ll see them in your Friends List.

Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.107.0 for Android and 1.77.0 for iOS devices. Details from our development team:

  • Added new social features that allow Trainers to add and remove Friends on their Friend List and build up their Friendship Level. As Trainers gain friendship they’ll earn bonuses when participating in Raid Battles.
  • Added a new gifting feature which allows Trainers to send friends Gifts they collect from PokéStops.
  • Added the ability for Trainers to trade Pokémon.
  • Improved Pokémon Collection screen search functionality enables Trainers to search using “Alola”.
  • Various bug fixes and performance updates.

Professor Willow’s Global Challenge

Professor Willow needs your help! On the weekends of our special live events, Trainers from all over the world will be tasked to complete Professor Willow’s Global Challenge! The challenge is simple: complete Field Research tasks!

For the purposes of this challenge, the global community will be split into four parts: The Americas; Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; the Asia-Pacific region; and the main research site itself. Each area will have to complete a set number of Field Research tasks, and if the goals are met, Trainers everywhere will be able to enjoy some amazing bonuses.

Pokémon GO Summer Tour 2018 kicks off in lush Westfalenpark as we host a Safari Zone event supported by the City of Dortmund in Germany! Trainers of all ages will be able to explore natural features and catch a wide variety of Pokémon, including some that do not often appear in Europe. Once released, Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region that you have caught in Pokémon GO can be brought into these two new Nintendo Switch games. Adventurous new research is on tap during an exciting in-game celebration! Starting on May 24 at 1:00 P.M. PDT, unique Field Research will be available with some exciting rewards, including a Raid Battle appearance by Pokémon such as Aerodactyl.

Throughout the celebration, Rock-type Pokémon such as Geodude, Lileep, and Nosepass will appear more frequently in the wild. There are also incentives to trek around: your Buddy Pokémon will earn Candy 4× faster throughout the event! Looking to make a difference this Earth Day, April 22? Like to play Pokémon GO? In collaboration with Mission Blue, we’re hosting local cleanup events around the world for Pokémon GO players, and you’re invited! Earth Day is a time to appreciate the places in which we live, and to find ways to help care for the planet. To help do our part, we will be hosting cleanup events around the globe!

Mission Blue, an organization dedicated to protecting the oceans, needs the help of Pokémon GO Trainers. If enough Trainers globally attend and partake in the cleanup efforts, they will unlock the following rewards worldwide:
