While waiting in the lobby with friends, we cancel a matchmaking, which was fine since we never got into a match. After 10 minutes of just waiting in the lobby, doing nothing, I got a random abandon sanction.

Sorry to hear you got an abandonment sanction. We don't have the ability to remove these though unfortunately and are also unable to add any mmr to accounts. I apologise for the inconvenience.
