Following an interruption of player rewards on Sunday July 25th, some data has remained unrecoverable. We apologise to those affected and will be providing compensation of 50k gold and 30 Doubloons to players who launch Sea of Thieves between now and August 9th (10am BST).

This data includes progress made by some players through Seasonal Renown, Tall Tales, Daily Deeds, Events and Commendations. If you did not see notification of your progress while playing Sea of Thieves on July 25th, it may not have been saved.

Compensation will be added to the accounts of players who log in again before August 9th (10am BST), but after playing please allow up to 72 hours for this to arrive before raising a new request with our Support team. Thank you for your patience.

The earlier issues with some players receiving a Lavenderbeard error message when trying to play Sea of Thieves have now been addressed. Any players still experiencing this error should be able to resolve it by quitting and restarting the game.

Attention pirates! Next week we'll be releasing a hotfix to address additional player feedback and further improve the Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life experience.

Ahoy, Steam users! We wanted to address some questions that we have seen asked since we launched Sea of Thieves on Steam. We hope you’ll find this useful in answering some of your burning questions!

Do I need an Xbox Live account to play?
To be able to play this game, users will need to sign in when prompted with an Xbox Live account. If you already play on Xbox Live or Windows 10, simply sign in with the account linked to your Xbox gamertag! If you need to set up an Xbox Live account, head over to http://www.xbox.com, click ‘Create an Account’ and follow the instructions. Please note that it is free to create an Xbox Live account, and playing Sea of Thieves on Steam does not require an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

The issue surrounding the Animal Arsenal Edition, whereby some purchasers were not receiving the bundled goodies to their Sea of Thieves account, is now fixed. Users who purchased this bundle should now have the items on their accounts. Thank you for your patience!
