/u/Redigit could you provide some clarification on this mechanic? I'm loving the update overall but tbh this seems a little extreme especially since it can lower drop rates and decrease DPS.
It's a very subtle effect, and this article doesn't do it justice at all. It's main purpose is to mess with RNG in a superstitious way, lots of games do this. Stop worrying about min maxing and just have fun.
If this really bothers you that much then drink a luck potion, throw down some good torches, place a gnome, touch a ladybug, then afk grind in your choice location on a lantern night.

I would like one as well. I asked one of the artists to do some easter egg clouds and then randomly came across this a few weeks later. Imagine my surprise. Lol
it's literally night and day. The droprates are so vastly different it's completely worthless to try and grind with wrong torches
It's not that dramatic, it takes a LOT of luck one way or the other to have any significant impact. The stat is actually pretty underpowered and only serves to change up RNG in a superstitious way. What kind of mad man puts regular torches in the ice biome anyway?
But now it haunts you that you can change the rng
So now that you know, change it. Touch a ladybug when you see one. Put gnomes and proper torches in the area you are farming, and drink a luck potion.
