You have not uploaded dxdiag.txt here, only the other three files I asked for. You'll need to generate it in the way I described first of course!

How have you done that? AFAIk the only way to stop Steam applying updates is to put it in offline mode.

It does not happen in HOI4, specifically?

Has EU4 ever worked on this machine? Or never yet?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

You are sure you cleared out everything mentioned in that process, before reinstalling? Unless this is a hardware or MacOS issue, it really should get you going again.

Well if that is so, there is nothing you or I can do about it here! It would need a game patch.

But my question was more, what benefit do you believe AA would give you? If you are concerned about the silver edging you see on many characters, that is basically universal since game launch. Not sure what that's about to be honest!

Or do you see some other visual issue you believe would be solved by AA?

I'm happy to help you here or in the ZenDesk ticket, but not both in parallel. Please pick one or the other for us to continue working on this, thank you.

Alright, now right click on each of those .exe files (EXCEPT eu4.exe!) and go to properties, compatibility. Set them to run as the Windows Admin user.

That should do it for you!

You should do a clean Steam reinstall

Good luck with that!   ... Read more

Helmet is a Linux thing, I recall vaguely, is that right?

Regardless, can I ask what problem you are trying to fix here? Do you have a graphics issue of some sort?

In the game launcher please set Display mode to windowed. THEN go here:

The latest supported Visual C++ downloads

This article lists the download links for the latest versions of Visual C++. support.microsoft.com support.microsoft.com And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

IF that doesn't help, Please do a full **clean** re-install:

Great, all the best!

PS: You'll probably have to do that after every patch I'm afraid.

Then it's hard to see why they are not working.

What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

CK3.exe (in the Steam CK3/binaries folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3/launcher folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.6/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

Good luck!

Unfortunately no crash or hang against this game in that dxdiag, and the other files look fine too.

What I do see is the nVidia driver is from 2017, so let's do a clean reinstall and update of that:

- uninstall that driver and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install this one:
NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce Game Ready Driver WHQL - reboot from here

Good luck with that!

Looks like they haven't provided that. I expect because in fact 3.04 is identical to 3.03 apart from the MP code - they changed what back-end servers are used by the game. So it would make no difference to an SP game anyway.

Given that I'm totally puzzled why this has happened to your save game file. It was started under 3.03, is that right?

It is a thing with the current game version that running eu4.exe does not show the DLCs. The point of doing that was to see if it ran at all, as a diagnostic step.

So we now know that you can run eu4.exe but the launcher cannot, for some reason.

What antivirus app(s) are you now using? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

eu4.exe and dowser.exe (in the Steam EU4 folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.6/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

Good luck!

I doubt your firewall was affected by your game crash or PC restart.

You may feel you've done all this, but please again do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.

Good luck!

I've seen this happen occasionally with this game over the years. Usually after some sort of outage, computer crash, Steam problem or something like that . Anything like that happen?

As far as prevention goes, all you can really do is make a backup copy of the ironman save file just before or after each play session, so you have somethign to fall back on should it happen again. But it is a VERY rare event! Which is why the devs have not been able to duplicate the issue so they can fix it.

Sorry this happened to you!

The process I posted above is exactly meant to address that issue, but you don't mention it. Please go through it.
