While I understand why you're doing this remember that you're going to be catering to an audience of people who exploit or want to break our game. That doesn't really make the kind of environment developers want to engage with. Making this all public will create a more hostile community and I for one will be more hesitant posting or reading here.

As a more "company" response to this, remember that:

  • Your rules are in contradiction with our own. Messaging us privately about these things is fine. Publicly teaching people how to exploit will get you banned.
  • Because of our focus on upgrading backend systems we won't be able to patch this stuff as quickly as we'd like. Despite your good intentions this is actually exacerbating the situation for us and the community.

PTS Issues

On Friday we pushed the code we've been working on for the past couple of months to the PTS and we encountered the minor issue of most players not being able to login at all! This was highly likely given the fact that we've almost completely rewritten the entire login/logout system. We didn't however expect the issues to be this drastic as obviously we hadn't seen this during our QA process.

Initial observations indicate that logins work fine at first but then abruptly stop working completely. We can see this in the log history, green bars are successful logins, red bars are failures:

We suspect what's happening is a concurrency issue (such as a deadlock) that ... Read more

Skies of Arcadia is one of the direct inspirations yes, so the similarities are not coincidence :)

You will still be free to logout your character and your ship will continue to log out like it does not, but if you wish you can sit and wait the 3 minutes knowing the ship will logout as your character does. This only occurs if you are the last owner of the ship to log off.

The blight can be overly aggressive right now, and we are completely rewriting it for the next update, the current advice is to keep your ships quite simple and avoid high populated areas.

Your engines are backwards :O

Unless you're keeping it authentic Delphinus, in which case, carry on. Skies of Arcadia is one of the largest inspirations behind the game :D

If chests have no loot they are seen as open and you cannot interact with them.

I'm currently in the midst of reworking the loot system. All chests and containers will always be present, so you'll at least know you've found the right spot even if there is no loot. However, if a container or chest is particularly well hidden and is not looted it will accumulate more loot and be worth a lot more to anyone who is a savvy explorer.

We do have some future features designed that let's you "buff" clothing to improve certain actions, originally it was tied to specific items (like the engineers apron) but we don't want to limit your clothing choices, so instead those benefits can be applied to a clothing item of your choice.

Murals will become very important in the future, just the nature of early access for now! :D

We have overhauled the wind system in our development builds that should make the wind more predictable and sailing more viable.

Sails will also have their own procedural schematics like engines etc as well as large side sail variants. The intention is that when sailing with the wind they should outpace he heavy cannon, engine ships.

That'll be the first rebalance I did. 1.7 and 1.8 have further adjustments based on internal playtests.

I take it as a positive that he would still be interested in playing it. Once we fix up PvP, sort out the technical issues and start adding content it will be in a much better state to stream.

You'll notice if you have a character in the main game that you will play as them in the island creator, the plan is to expand this feature to allow you to use the equipment your character has as well, which would include gliders etc if you logged out with them equipped.

This was our original idea, but we realised that no matter what the timer was people would rather wait it out than risk their ship. Then it feels like we are forcing everyone to wait 5+ minutes to respawn on their ship.

I in no way want them to change that and I think grappling is absolutely perfect. It is easily my favorite feature of the game and taking away momentum manipulation may very well ruin that for me. Your point about making the salvager much more close ranged seems like a very valid fix for this and I seriously hope the devs see this and hopefully decide to go in that direction instead.

TL;DR PLEASE DONT CHANGE THE GRAPPLE MECHANICS DEVS IT IS YOUR BEST FEATURE DONT RUIN A GREAT THING

An important clarification is that the movement restrictions while grappling only take effect while you are actively using your salvage tool. Otherwise it will remain as it is.
