Proton doesn't necessarily have 0 support from devs. The game "Have a nice Death" had in a bug in a certain version of proton and they made a community post about it with a workaround before eventually pushing a fix. So we can hope for active support from devs with proton just like with native.

And native client doesn't always get continued support/fixed from breakage. I believe a famous example is borderlands never got all the dlc as native. Here is a conversation about crosscode being broken for some on the Linux native client but not on proton (I had this too). Not to mention that countless examples of proton having better performance than native clients.

It seems like frostgiant is aware of steamdeck/linux since they sometimes have a steamdeck in their interviews/...

I'm a huge fan of the Steam Deck. I only got 50% mad when I learned about the updated version with the improved screen.

Probably 3 weeks. From their Kickstarter page:

If you pledge to a reward tier that includes 2024 Beta: Wave 1 access, you will be automagically invited to all future beta tests as well. Please note that our beta periods are not continuous. Historically, they have each been three weeks long, but that is subject to change based on development needs."

Thanks for doing my job! :D

Pumped af, do we need the preorder to play feb 5th or will this be the public beta?

Feb 5-12 is open to the public. Kickstarter backers who pledged at a tier that receives Wave 1 beta access will get in a few days early. They will also get to keep playing for the remainder of the February beta test after Steam Next Fest ends, as well as all future tests.

(Beta testers will be able to playtest the third faction later this year.)

Where to sign up for the tournament? I assume it will be a huge bracket like back in the wol days….

Details will be coming soon from EGC, the tournament organizer.

Will there be a list of balance changes and unit updates since the last time the game was presented?

I'll be sharing some of the key beta build changes before Steam Next Fest begins. Maybe two weeks or so earlier, more or less?

Just FYI, for anyone willing to test this: we have seen people post here who were flat out banned due to language.

Chat at your own risk. I would expect some tight monitoring.

I'm going to echo this. We have permanently banned playtesters for toxicity. Please be cool and treat each other with respect.

Hello, Stormgate fam,

We have super exciting news to share as we gear up for a major moment in the Stormgate journey. Stormgate will be part of Steam Next Fest!

Steam Next Fest takes place February 5–12, during which we will be opening up access to our closed beta, including full access to our ranked 1v1 and 3P co-op vs. AI modes. This marks the first time we have opened the gates to the public, offering everyone an opportunity to get their hands on the RTS we’re b...

Are you doing OK? This thread literally mentioned our game by name. And as you can see, they are actively playing (and enjoying) our beta.

Have a wonderful 2024!

Ok, as it so happens I was lucky enough to get into the Stormgate beta, the responsiveness definitely lives up to the promises and at this point I would be very surprised if Stormgate didn't replace SC2 as my RTS of choice, you guys are doing an excellent job!

Hell yeah, I love to hear that you’ve had a chance to playtest and the entire team deeply appreciates the support. This is going to be a big year for Stormgate and we’re glad to have you be a part of our development journey!

I just can't do it. After over a decade, no other game has the simplicity or slickness of SC2. Units in AoE in comparison just move like a badly choreographed dance group wading through treacle. It feels so silly to say but units in SC2 just... do what I ask, when I ask and until another game can capture that responsiveness properly I'm stuck here losing to gimmicky widow mines, banelings, disruptors, mech and Skytoss.

Responsiveness is key in an RTS. Be sure to check out Stormgate.

Very nice. Kinda funny they released a video like this. I think the complaints may have gotten through!

We've been listening--it's just been a little quiet recently as the team has been recharging its batteries on holiday break. (I've personally been able to enjoy some much-appreciated family time with the wife and kids.)

We're planning to hit the ground running again as we get back to it in 2024!

Hello, all!

As 2023 comes to a close, we wanted to drop in to let you know that the Frost Giant team has been paying close attention to the many responses to our early closed beta build—both positive and critical—and we are already identifying ways to address the visual clarity feedback.

This was expected—games undergo a lot of changes during development and the pace at which this team is moving can be seen in this video that highlights the progress we’ve made since pre-alpha.

When we committed to bringing the community along with us on our development journey, we understood that some people would pass judgment early on, and that’s OK.

Some of the feedback we’ve seen is “We want your game to look more like StarCraft,” while others say “Your game looks too mu...
