Contains the following Fixes
  • Fixed bug causing operations to break if you click to start them before the audio narration has finished playing. If you have a stuck mission that is affected, you may need to cancel it and can start it again after a short cooldown.
  • Fixed bug preventing players from starting a new SIMPL3 mission at the terminal.
  • Adding missing saucepan proxy mesh for cooking devices

Week Ninety Two is here and brings the Terrenus mount to Icarus. Slotting in between the existing mounts (Moa and Buffalo) in terms of utility, the Terrenus can be found across all three maps and tamed just like its predecessors.

We’ve also released the Bone Armor Set. This was originally set aside for a Twitch Drops campaign, but we decided to let everyone have it rather than keep it in reserve. We’ve also added DLSS 3 support for those playing with DX12.

On top of this, we have updates on Hypatia, some changes to modules and a performance improvement that was supposed to be included last week.

See the full details below.

Notable Improvements
  • The Dynamic Nav Mesh was re-enabled. The lack of this was causing poor creature pathing and preventing Creature Deterrents from working.
  • Fixed a case where players would not get mission rewards if they weren't present for the start of a mission after they had previously...

You're absolutely not downloading 56GB of data every update. The downloads themselves are quite small, but due to how the games data is packaged and how Steam likes to handle storing and updating this data it can result in a lot of files being moved around on disk. On slower hard drives this can take a while - it's likely if you have a look in the download page in Steam you'll see it goes from 'Updating' to 'Patching' then to 'Installing'. Only this first phase is the actual download.

Things can be adjusted at our end, but any improvement to install time will be to the detriment of either download size, game load time or several other factors.

Week Eighty Two brings improvements to Player Beacons as well as the Creature Deterrents we added last week. New Beacon customization options gives you the ability to be more specific with your map markers, and we also have a sneak peek at next week's quality of life pass on the Orbital Workshop.

Hop in and have a read.

Player Beacons
In last week's update, we reduced Beacons from Tier 4 to Tier 3, and this week we’ve followed on from that update with more balancing and improvements to the item.

The crafting cost has received a rebalance, moving from 25 → 10 Steel Ingots and from 25 → 20 Platinum Sheath.

We have also removed the requirement for sunlight for these to function.

To make Beacons more useful, we’ve also added interactable customization, letting you add icons and specific colors for each Beacon.

Working directly with NVIDIA on getting it sorted, but still a couple of issues that have to be resolved. Keep an eye on patch notes in the near future.

Can you post some information about your game and setup? We've seen a lot of framerate improvement with the last couple of updates as a general rule, so would love to be able to pin down what specific circumstances are leading to people experiencing the opposite. Most important in order is probably hardware, map, part of the map you're experiencing the biggest issues on, hosting or not, number of players, game mode etc.

Fastest way is probably through Discord (discord.gg/stationeers), but you can also email [email protected] and we can pluck it out of there.

We're currently investigating a server issue. Currently not looking like any of the problems we've addressed previously, but touch-wood the servers are slowly coming back online now - Will be monitoring and posting more frequent updates in the Discord at http://discord.gg/surviveicarus and in this thread.

Servers appear to be back up, but we'll be monitoring for a bit while we push the weekly patch before we close this pinned thread.

We've escalated to our service provider who has escalated to Microsoft who are currently in the call working through it with our engineers. There's a limit to what we can do. We could be planning how we're going to make fundamental architectural changes to Icarus to prevent this from ever happening again - but that was done after the last outage a couple of weeks ago and those plans remain unchanged.

The issue has been escalated to our Cloud provider, but i'll continue to post updates as we get them. Still no ETA unfortunately, but we'll have an update on our ongoing stability work prioritization we mentioned in last weeks patch notes in this weeks patch post as well.

In our weekly update we included an engine upgrade to Unreal Engine 4.27. An unfortunate side-effect of this update meant that players could no longer rejoin multiplayer prospects in progress.

Hotfixes are disruptive due to downloads
We do apologize for doing the hotfix, as we know it is disruptive with how the downloads work and some users experience long times where Steam has to verify the entire game. Unfortunately we really do need to get this change out, as it is badly impacting some players.

Fixed: Inability to Join Multiplayer Sessions In Progress
Details of problem:
Our host session parameters were not properly brought across during engine upgrade.
We were specifying that you could ONLY join via Steam friends thus when searching for old sessions none would populate. Would work first time due to crowbar join flow available only to the session browser as we had all required session data right there.

In yesterday's update we introduced a highly-anticipated outpost mission including the entirety of the Olympus map. Unfortunately this was gated behind the 'Nightfall' mission incorrectly, and players were still unable to access it even after completing the pre-requisite mission.

Hotfixes are disruptive due to downloads
We do apologize for doing the hotfix, as we know it is disruptive with how the downloads work and Steam has to verify the entire game. This can take a long time, depending on your storage hardware. Unfortunately we really do need to get this change out, as it restricts access to the main feature of this week's update.

'Daybreak' Outpost Pre-Requisites Removed
As many players have already completed the 'Nightfall' mission, 'fixing' the problem would require us to manually update their database records to reflect the correct value. After the server outages experienced last night, we've opted to instead avoid these changes by removing ... Read more

In addition to bug fixes and optimizations, most of our updates this week are user-experience themed with changes to consumables, the prospect selection screen and mission art.

Look out for highlights on prospects that define them as ‘insured drops’, a feature that guarantees your prospector's safety in the case of them missing their leaving window. You’ll also notice some new items on the loading screens.

As promised last week, not only do we tell you when you can skip the intro video but there is now a settings menu option to skip it (a black screen will be displayed while the game loads).

Our focus this week is on updating Icarus' map, along with some several gameplay balance changes.

This includes a whole bunch of much-requested fixes ranging from fish and mushroom availability to optimizing performance-heavy environment assets. Several holes in the map have been patched up. Most issues with collision volumes on rocks in caves being bigger than the rock itself should now be fixed, removing frustrating instances where some mineral deposits could not be mined. Plus, there are now more voxels in caves for you to mine.

As the Icarus team's planning for 2022 continues, this week we've taken a break from adding new missions to get a bunch of new items into the workshop. You'll find a lot of new options to take in your dropship load-outs that let you choose how you want to tackle a mission.

Inaris Tools
The Inaris manufacturing consortium has introduced full new set of tools for Icarus prospectors, including Axe, Pickaxe, Spear, Knife and Arrows.

Showing their heritage in the mining industry, Inaris’s products have a weighty, industrial look to them. They're designed for durability as you'd expect of products used far from Earth where repair and replacement are difficult if not impossible.
