We do, but it's always nice to get the devs involved too if we can. Lately, we've been doing the dev stream and blog posts.

Maybe instead of working on material for season 12 that wont be seen for another 2 years you could focus on issues that are currently affecting the game or work on ways to keep it fresh for players? Don’t you have an entire studio dedicated to this game now? What do they do for 8 hours a day 5 days a week? Really not trying to be rude but as a day 1 player it seems like you guys put way too much time into future material that ends up really not being that much new material and don’t really care about maintaining what you’ve already made.

Edit: I get it, you cant criticize anything Respawn does, objectively critique how they operate, or ask questions about what they’re doing. Never change reddit warriors, never change.

Things deteriorate, plates stop spinning if nobody is keeping them spinning. When we release a LTM we develop and test it and ensure it works before release, and then the LTM goes away. During the off-time the game changes. Meta changes, we change the maps, we add new systems to the game, or maybe we change some engine tech. All of these things can potentially break the LTM that was once working in an older state of the game.

If we stopped focusing on longer-term content, you would never get new legends, maps, weapons, or other cool features that require a long dev cycle. It would be very dangerous to only focus on short term content.

Our hope is to provide a good balance of live game upkeep (bugs, balance, etc) vs new features. We're always trying to keep the game fresh for players. We're introducing quite a few things in Season 6 that freshen up the game! Everyone is going to have a different opinion about what fresh means to them, but I think you'll be excited ab...

That's a pretty funny typo.

I would feel bad about the leaks but there's no Respawn presence on this sub (except fan art comments), nothing really to dissuade it. It would help if Respawn actually communicated here often, maybe people would feel guilty about stealing some of your thunder.

Hah! Thanks for catching the typo! A lot of the devs are here often and read, but very few post anymore. It's pretty brutal, to be honest. Inbox quickly fills up with hate messages and demands. Pretty hard to feel appreciated. Something I suppose nobody understands until they're in the position. That said, I don't want this to come off as a complaint. I'm super grateful to have a game I worked on reach the level of success it has, and I love that there's a large community here of passionate gamers who want to see more of the game. I do appreciate all of you and mostly have fun chats with people when I do post, but it's a real exercise of mental strength to ignore the loud minority who send hate which is probably why you don't see more conversation happening involving developers.

I shouldn’t have made it sound so snarky. I couldn’t care less about video game leaks. My point was, it seems like it would be infinitely more effective to focus on shutting down leaks from that long list of professional folks involved than to make an emotional plea to a 13 year old on the internet who is no doubt now even more motivated by garnering your attention.

Edit: can’t wait to play Season 6. Been playing since day one, best BR out there.

We do quite a bit to stop leaks internally, but you can never prevent it completely. Not trying to make this post a big deal, just wanted to say something about it because it really sucks. Super happy there are people who care about the game and want to talk about it though!!

Give it a shot! We've been having a blast with it at Respawn. There's still more to be announced as well that changes the game quite a bit!

S6 looks like its going to add a lot of annoying new aspects to the game, at least give us a fun mode when ranked and casual ranked inevitably become boring and frustrating.

It's something we want to do for sure. It's not that we "won't do it". Of course, we want to do it. Takes development + testing time.

Maybe tell the developers to stop leaking info to people that will leak it on reddit.

Building this game involves hundreds of people from the close group of devs at the studio, to QA spread around the world, to contractors and outsource studios, marketing team, trailer team, PR team, etc etc etc. When you have that many people involved unfortunately there will be a few bad apples despite how hard you try. We're a very good team and have very few problems with this in general, but that 0.01% of people can spoil things for the other 99.99%.

  1. Your reliable source doesn't sound super reliable. Lots of wrong and missing information, and a couple of accurate things.
  2. Nothing takes the wind out of our sails like seeing our hard work be leaked on the internet before we get to unveil it as planned. In the past, with more substantial leaks there were moments where instead of the team being excited and celebrating the hard work and launch of a season were left feeling betrayed and let down. All this for what? So some faceless person on the internet can feel good about themselves because they have 'secret' information? Please think about the developers you are hurting. We work very hard on content and features for the game and our biggest motivator is announcing and seeing reactions to that hard work. Please stop robbing us of that.

On top of that I’ve had hesitation in applying because I’ve heard from other friends who have worked for EA that it’s not super great, and cautioned me against it. However, I LOVE apex and what it’s given me and my gf and daughter with something to bond over so heavily that it reminds me of my previous position at LEGO, and that feeling of wanting to be a part of the creation of something so amazing is persistent inside of me. Just want you to know that your comment has restored and instilled faith in me that it could be a good thing. My only other trouble is that I’m in CT and can’t relocate, wondering if you guys would be accepting of a remote hire 👀

We are accepting remote hire. It would be great if you applied and spoke to the team themselves. You’d have an opportunity to talk to them about anything you’d like and hopefully end up working with us!

Wow, that's amazing. Great work. Agree we need something like this in the game for sure!

Wow, 3682 hours?? That's like 6-7 hours a day since the game launched. Are you serious?? Wowww. If that's really true then hit me up I'll send you something.

Like a broken record I continuously asked that people speak up to their managers or producers if they will not be able to get their work done on time without crunching. Delays would be ok, we just need to know one is needed

Perhaps people are afraid that this will somehow come back to haunt to them or even replace them. There are always more 20y single employees, available, that can pull 12/14h a day.

Nobody wants to be the person to raise their hand and say they're not going to hit their deadline. Nobody wants to be the one who got a feature delayed. Nobody wants to let their teammates down, or let the fans down. Everyone wants to fix that bug, finish that cool new character, or get that new gamemode up and running, and will crunch themselves unknowingly to get it done. That's how dedicated this team is, they're amazing.

This is not a healthy (or normal) behavior. This sounds like your employees are afra...

It’s very hard to know what people are doing when you’re working from home. It’s not like we can actually see these people in the office late hours, that’s why at some point if you’re working too much you have to speak up or else nobody knows.

Our team is very close, like a family. There is no fear or losing your job and no crunch culture, and we are open and honest with each other all the time and never avoid difficult conversations. It’s actually a very good culture that has kept Respawn a great place to work since day one.

Sometimes when you have hundreds of employees you’re going to occasionally have an upset one despite making our best efforts. This person decided to write a review online instead of talking to their peers or manager first which is unfortunate.

You’re way off. We are constantly pushing features back as needed, encouraging breaks and no working after hours, and doing far less game updates than you all demand, despite you all calling us lazy on here everyday.

Seriously, talking to the community and being so honest is amazing. Thanks for writing man, and I wish you and the team the best .

Thank you and looking forward to seeing your application! Would be happy to chat with you sometime if you ever feel like talking with someone in the industry that might have some insights for you.

So just my 2 cents. Telling your leader you cant meet a deadline is really tough. It feels like admitting failure not only to them but yourself. Read the room and don't just take their word on it. In my experience if, as a leader, you have a lot of work and feeling pressure to meet deadlines then most likely your team is too. Love the game, thank you for everything

There are a lot of non leaders people can speak to, but still nobody wants to admit failure, I get it. Reading a room is hard when you're not all in a room anymore, but I agree. That's one of the challenges for sure. Working remote over zoom removes the personal aspect of working together, so it presents new challenges. Like I said, we've got great intent and have had a few misses along the way. We learn and get better, that's all you can do.
