Nope, RuneLite will continue to be supported even after we deprecate our client. You can see some more here: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/1eb4c3w/comment/leq4xjx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Can say that we'll be using Lua as the language for our Plugin API.

Ello ello, I just want to quash any worries you might have.

Us announcing the deprecation of the Legacy Java Client won't have any impact on RuneLite, which is exactly what Adam says himself in that screenshot ("which is not that they are doing right now"). In our blog we've tried to be as clear as possible with that in the first sentence of the section:

"Finally, let’s talk about what these plans mean for the Legacy Java Client – and to clarify, we’re talking about our own official one, not RuneLite or other third-party, Java-based clients."

We love RuneLite, most of us internal...

In regards to plugins for the official client, will the settings/configuration for these plugins be saved on our accounts or will they be saved only locally?

It's something we're exploring and would love to make happen!

This is from a personal standpoint, but I can already see people wanting to create QuestHelper on the official Plugin API already - so more than likely.

Whoever is doing the graphical engine changes and whoever is in charge of its art direction, give them my praise!

They nailed the hd look in ways I haven’t seen done before, while sticking to what old school should be. This is impressive.

Atm, just that we are very aware of how much of an issue it is for players and we're working to improve it. No dates on its release yet

Appreciate the kind words! I will pass this on to the teams <3

This will be the number 1 stumbling block for me ever leaving runelite if i have to configure all my plugins from the ground up again

So this is something that team have thought about when putting plugins that will be similar to that which your already famaliar with on - it's not something we can gurantee but we are exploring it.

Can we get more info on the 95% positive player survey for jagex accounts? In particular

  • How were participants chosen?
  • What was the response rate?
  • When did the survey take place?
  • What was the rating scale for positive / negative?

If you've cracked it I might look at upgrading but this seems like a huge jump, even if it does still show 250 people had a negative experience

I'm happy to give as much of that as possible.

  • It was an opt-in survey - so it was up to players to take the survey
  • The survey is still open and we included in the most recent Gazette
  • Extremely Positive, Positive, Neutral, Negative, Extremely Negative - if I understood that correctly.

No, I can't see us ever doing that as it would give some level of advantage to the Mobile client that won't be done on any Desktop client.

Please make the team aware of, that no UI change will be as significant on playability on mobile as Menu Entry Swapper. We need it badly. Many skills are untrainable because of it missing, and long-press just isn't convenient in the slightest.

Trust me, the team are very aware - hence why it's being worked on :)

Yes, we mention the month but no firm date.

It's fantastic that the official client is progressing. I wish I still played using it but I don't think it's for me. I used to play on it all the time until updates started changing core parts of the UI without a poll and were not togglable. These were admittedly small changes but made the game feel weird to me. This is when I switched to runelite because everything was togglable. Perhaps one day the official client will also have this.

Could you give me some examples of the bits you didn't like that changed?

Technically no - we have to emulate the current SD with to bring in HD, but we've made sure that you all shouldn't see any difference as we wanted to make sure that keeping the integrity of the classic look of the game is kept.

FWIW for most devices this does mean SD should have some level of increased performance :)

If OSRS made a great mobile client, I feel that it would entice a lot more players than a pc client would.

I think the new UI along with more elements like Menu Entry Swapper coming will give that 'parity' we're wanting from all these improvements to the client.

Cool, but any kind of timeline other than “soon”?

We really don't want to give any timelines until we're super confident that we can deliver. But I can personally assure you the team is working extremely hard to make this release as soon as possible and avoid another Winter 2017.

It's important for us to get our own client up to scratch with the precedence RuneLite has set, as the core experience for playing this game should match the expectations of the community. This also means we can do more things with the client like HD and give the Mobile Client some much needed love.

Hopefully that gives you some extra insight from our end :)

Can confirm the team are in a very through stage of ensuring that this UI is right for everyone. I can say that the reception so far has been very positive and hopefully if that continues it will really be a soon.

As soon as I have some more information you'll be sure to hear it. Sorry I can't provide more than that.
