  • The system automatically bans.

  • A random daily sample gets checked.

  • If your account is not part of this daily sample, you are permanently banned with no appeal process.

  • The system bans very blatant (to how a system can determine) bots (mass created gold farmers etc)
  • The system flags other more bespoke/intelligent bots for manual review
  • Flagged accounts are checked by an Anti Cheating Specialist
  • Accounts are reviewed daily by Team Leads for accuracy
  • Accounts can be appealed if compromised by third-parties via this link

Agreed. That’s the double edged sword with automated systems that’s get rid of obvious bots is that real players get hit from time to time.

It's human error that acts as a double edged sword - even though we use very few of them, automated bans are actually very accurate (much more so than human) but they are fed from human learning to help improve and make them effective, otherwise they would be wildly inaccurate and flag entire swaths of innocent users, or be very niche and therefore not effective in aiding to take out mass amount of bots (contrary to popular belief, we do ban over 15,000 bots per day in OSRS - mostly made up of 'suicide bots' created to generate a small amount of wealth and trade it off as quickly as possible). Whilst the automated system does ban a number of accounts, these are from heuristics built by the team and are only made live after vigorous checks. When they do eventually get made live, they are very restrictive on what type of account they look for and are reviewed frequently. The vast majority of accounts are all checked by members of staff - hence where human error unfortunately comes in...

is this you admitting to being a bot?

We don't offer rollbacks for this type of situation I'm afraid.

Using any form of AHK can result in a permanent offence being applied to your account, the severity of abuse often determines whether you will get a temporary ban first or not. There is no "1:1 is safe" - even remapping keys using AHK will run the risk, and I suggest the use of Mouse Keys or remapping keys using your hardware vendors software if you're wishing to do so.

The purpose is more or less to stop the dicing bots as a whole. Sure, P-Mod would be awesome and help but that’s not the end goal. I’m honestly not going to stop reporting these accounts until all of them are gone and they have a proper prevention system towards this.

It’s to show Jagex that what they’re doing to prevent these bots isn’t enough and in my eyes it’s disappointing that a random player has to not only go down the list reporting all these bots, but also post it on a PUBLIC forum (reddit) for it to actually get attention.

The first 2 days went un-noticed and it took a further 2 posts in order to see a change (banning approx 38 bots).

It's worth noting that we're not banning the accounts because you're specifically posting about them - we already go through and ban them en mass, however they're easy to create and therefore show up often, and we have to be cautious when banning them as quite a few are often hijacked.

Also, accounts we ban won't show as random [#] names on your ignore list - that's only when we remove the display name on top of a ban.

And couldn‘t you potentially blacklist any ‚gambling‘ related names? Eg. BET/ROLL ect

Reporting does help, blocking names wouldn't be too worthwhile as there are surprisingly players who are playing legitimately with the name with no dodgy activity and as seen from the screenshot they would just go to jumbled up names.

I've just banned (or secured if compromised) over 3,500 accounts directly related to this activity. There's things in the works to hopefully stem the flow of this kind of behavior long term.

Sounds like your account may have been compromised from what you've said. Please take a look at this article: https://support.runescape.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360000867958

There was no update. The last thread was removed not too long after a JMod asked for more details. Honestly, it sounds like we got bamboozled.

For reference:

It turned out to be a phishing lure via Discord, we found no issues with the trade system. Edit: Offenders were permanently banned.

The bans valid, also please refrain from using staking bots.

This player was banned across quite a few accounts. Should you suspect anyone else of using AHK, please report them in-game for Macroing and send information through to [email protected]

We do clear them out often but there's the whole rest of the game to take care of too, and I'm sure you'd really start to notice rather major issues if we applied your method to our way of working. It's worth noting that BH Emblems would be much worse than what you're seeing if we didn't do anything.

Examples:

Both of the players in these clips have received bans against their accounts

They're not exactly the same, very subtle differences can cause one solution to not work, and it's a very fine line of capturing and muting legitimate players.

Hey, there was a handful of accounts locked on Friday morning for precautionary checks to ensure that everything was in order. Whilst the majority of accounts were unlocked within minutes, 9 accounts remained locked over the weekend. I've now added missed membership to these accounts and unlocked them - please do note that an account lock doesn't mean you will have "lost their accounts and all their work" - they can simply be unlocked via the website.

Its very discouraging to report players that abuse the game (and then make real world profit off lf it) then get told to just make more reports.

I understand your frustration, and whilst we do miss some accounts or refuse to take action, this is due to lack of hard evidence. Reporting accounts does keep bringing them to our attention, so when there is enough evidence to support the claim, we can take decisive action.
