Changes to Events, Rewards, and Collections

Rotation is always an exciting time for Magic: The Gathering players and we want to make sure that you're ready to try out some new or updated decks as we explore a new meta. As part of this, there are some changes we'll be making with the Core Set 2020 game update to further help players with their rotation readiness:

Events

• We will no longer be scheduling Limited events (Drafts, Sealed) for sets rotating out of Standard this fall.
• Drafts and Sealed events use the following sets leading up to rotation: Guilds of Ravnica, Ravnica Allegiance, War of the Spark, Core Set 2020.

Individual Card Rewards (ICRs)

• Players will no longer receive ICRs from sets rotating out of Standard this fall.

Introduction to Rotation

What is "rotation"?

Each year, four Magic: The Gathering sets are released and added to Standard. Once per year, when the fall set releases, the four oldest sets in Standard rotate out. This is known as "set rotation" (or rotation for short).

Which sets will be rotating out of Standard?

When the fall set releases, cards from the Ixalan, Rivals of Ixalan, Dominaria and Core Set 2019 sets will rotate out of Standard.

When will rotation happen on MTG Arena?

Rotation will happen when the fall set (code name: "Archery") releases on MTG Arena.

Does rotation mean there will be another reset on Magic: The Gathering Arena?

There are currently no plans to do another account reset on MTG Arena. Players will keep all the cards currently in their collection.

War of the Spark Chronicles

• The reward structure and amount of wins required to win has been updated for Part IV and Part V. The distribution of prizes will be as follows:
  • 3 Wins: 1st Glass Style
  • 5 Wins: 200 Gold
  • 7 Wins: 2nd Glass Style
  • 10 Wins: 3rd Glass Style

Developer Notes: We've received a lot of feedback regarding the new event structure, and one of the things we wanted to change was players feeling "burnt out" by the amount of time it took to receive all of the prizes. We want players to feel challenged by these events and rewarded for completing them, but not at the cost of fun. The total rewards remain the same; we've combined the two Gold rewards into one (previously, you'd receive 100 Gold at 6 wins and 12 wins respectively), and lowered the total number of wins required to receive all glass styles (previously, you'd receive a glass style reward ...

While no downtime is expected, this is a required update. Players who are logged in prior to the start of maintenance will be required to restart their client to download the patch.

Starting with the release of Core Set 2020, Magic: The Gathering Arena will be introducing a new mulligan system in all of it's formats: Each time you take a mulligan, you draw seven cards. Once you decide which hand to keep, you must put a number of cards from your hand equal to the number of times you have mulliganed this game on the bottom of your library in the order of your choice. Known Issue: Seasonal Reward Payout

Players who were ranked Bronze or Silver in either Constructed or Limited during War of the Spark Season 1 incorrectly received Ravnica Allegiance packs as part of their seasonal rewards. Players can contact customer support to receive the correct packs.

• "Asset Error Detected" - Players who have their Windows display language set to Turkish may encounter an "Asset Error Detected" warning that was forcibly exits the game.

We will be performing scheduled maintenance on May 24th, 2019 at 6AM PT (13:00 UTC) to deploy a hotfix for the 0.15.00.00 game update. Maintenance is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.

Players will be unable to join matches during this time. Matchmaking will be re-enabled once maintenance is complete. Players will not need to download any additional updates as part of this maintenance.

War of the Spark Chronicles

• A five week event series, with a different format each week:
  • Week 1: Momir
    • (New!) Each deck will contain basic lands as well as the 36 War of the Spark planeswalkers!
  • Week 2: Pauper
  • Week 3: Singleton
  • Week 4: (New!) Counters: At the beginning of your end step, put a loyalty counter on each planeswalker you control and a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control with a +1/+1 counter on it. If you control no creatures with a +1/+1 counter and no planeswalkers, amass 1.

Players who qualified should have received a confirmation email. Additionally, a Mythic Qualifier badge should be present on your profile page and special "Mythic Qualifier Event" will be viewablae in-game. No downtime is expected. Players who are logged in prior to the start of maintenance are encouraged to download the update once it is available. Otherwise, Magic: The Gathering Arena will update the next time the game is launched.

Store

• A "Card Style" table is now available in the Store.
  • Note: This will redirect players to their collection with Cosmetic Mode enabled.

Bundles

Guildgate Bundle

• The Guildgate Bundle is no longer available for purchase.
• Card styles that were available in this bundle will be available for purchase at a later date.

New: Draft Bundles

Each bundle contains three War of the Spark card styles:

• White Draft Bundle: Prison Realm, Law-Rune Enforcer, Trusted Pegasus card styles.
• Blue Draft Bundle: Rescuer Sphinx, Aven Eternal, Tamiyo’s Epiphany card styles.
• Black Draft Bundle: Eternal Taskmaster, Ob Nixilis’s Cruelty, Herald of the Dreadhorde card styles.
• Red Draft Bundle: Cyclops Electromancer, Spellgorger Weird, Jaya’s Greeting card styles.
• Green Draft Bundle: Challenger Troll, Bloom Hulk, Giant Growth card styles.
