Good afternoon, your post really made me empathize with you even if that was not your goal, talking about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Seriously, thank you for what you do and for taking some time to answer questions, no dev deserves to get hate constantly thrown at them.

If I could ask a question, is there a reason why we're not getting a "spooky" lobby/music or more Halloween specific themed skins like previous years? Regardless, have a good one!

I think honestly it just didn't get prioritized this time. Lot of other issues happening atm. Live and learn.

Really hope you're still answering these.

Is there any chance at all you guys might change the amount of time the LTM will be out in response to the recent criticism of the time on the mode being so short?

IDK about this time in particular but always open to changing in the future. I hear the complaints and see it as valid

I'm genuinely curious.

They talked about BR snapshot rate having to much information but in a 3v3 arenas, they could increase it for that mode? More packets sent means less issue if any drop and overall better performance.

The reasons given only covered BR mode and they compared to last gen consoles at 60fps. What benefits would players have who play at 144 - 240+ fps that could capitalise on the extra bandwidth on increased frame rates using higher hz servers, for arenas?

I'll copy paste this as it's a relevant question to save me time retyping.

The way they currently handle matchmaking and lag compensation for those further afield from the server (they also migrate players to different data centres) or with slower internet connections to accommodate faster que times makes for an unenjoyable experience when you don't have a team mate, they inevitably DC or inconsistent quality and feel each and every match. Big part of most players complaints.

As I understand it, no, we couldn't do it differently for Arenas, and even if we COULD the performance improvement would be negligible. This is what the lead server engineers genuinely believe.

Thanks! For anyone who wanted real answers to questions I'm in that thread replying to as many as I can here.

Well, you just made up a fake quote to get mad at, so no, not really lmao

What are the chances we’re going to get a dedicated performance season instead of just a new legend and new cosmetics

The premise of the question is that devs are like villagers from Age of Empires which can just be re-assigned to tasks and succeed. It just doesn't work that way, although it'd be dope if it did. In reality the cosmetic people are going to keep making cosmetics because that's their role and—frankly—it's an important role that keeps the business going. The people making new legends likewise are not the people you would want focused on performance. We ARE hiring more engineers specifically to focus on bugs and performance though, among many others.

IDK the exact mechanism there but assume there's a checking process that runs to double-check that all those people are supposed to be together

Thank you, and Godspeed

Also unsure if you saw but GamingMerchant believes some of the stutter issues in Apex is caused by having too many people on your friends list due to the tracker that shows what you’re doing to everyone (ex: World’s Edge Duos, 3 squads left, 7min in game).

I culled my friends list and my game ran a lot better. Still not as good as it used to before the Genesis event though.

Hmm, I'll ask around about the friends list thing. Ty for sharing that.

I guess coming from an Engineers perspective, even when I don't have an exact date I can give my boss, I can at least give details on how I'm progressing on a project.

To use the Halloween event as an example, we don't have an actual "event yet", just more "here buy some expensive skins" with little to no explanation.

If I told my boss I can't deliver on a project, but I need 50K more to complete it with no details I'd be fired. Why can't Respawn just say "Hey, there are some bugs but it should be out within the next week or so".

I think you'd find your community would love you guys a lot more.

I actually agree you should share whatever information you have that you 1) can share, and 2) are confident in. My twitter thread was about what happens when you don't have information to share that meets that criteria. Note especially the part about owning issues and working to get shareable information behind the scenes.

Thank you for responding.

I am very capable of taking jokes as jokes haha, I just personally didn't find it funny considering the state the servers are in and how complaints are 100% valid. But humour is subjective so fair enough. I hope respawn can turn it around because I genuinely love this game (it singlehandedly reignited my love for gaming after a decade break) and i miss the early days of when the devs and players would meme around.

I hope you have a good day, and again thank you for responding to myself and others. It goes a long way.

<3 you have a good one as well!

You literally said “I think he should go find a large rock—maybe even a boulder—and make a real attempt at punting that thing”

Your words, not mine.

And that is 100% besides the point anyway. To be honest, I don’t care if you want me to hurt myself. I’m not going to kick a boulder so it doesn’t really matter. The point is the point I was making.

If you wanna make nice over this follow me on twitter and lemme know your @ so we can DM and sort it out. Otherwise I'm gonna keep clapping your cheeks with memes on here lmao

Hey Ryan! Just want to say that I LOVE seeing this communication in the thread, just being here and talking with us. It really does feel good as a player. As someone else that works in a service-oriented professional capacity, I can understand how communication with clients (the community) can be burdensome at times, and downright dreadful at others.

As a newer play who has absolutely fallen in LOVE with Apex, are there any insights that you may be able to provide in terms of the long-term plans/goals for Apex, beyond a year or further? You may not be able to, which is all good, but if you could, I’d love to know what we, as a community, have to look forward to, even if not anything in the near term.

Thanks again for all of this communication, Ryan. As a player it really does make me more drawn toward the game itself

I think the only thing I can really say is that the team is taking a REALLY long view on the game. Not one year out, but like five years out. There's a lot of people who are caught up in the day to day, of course, but there's a lot more work happening that's invisible. Only time will tell if it pays off, but I think it will.

I know I’m late to this discussion, but I just wanted to reply in case you see this to say I know that the developers of a game are the people who want it to succeed the most. I know that all of the issues the community is upset and mad about are disheartening and frustrating to you guys too and that you do in fact care despite what many may believe.

You’ve made a very popular and beloved game. It’s unfortunate that that leads to people being so emotionally invested that they resort to insults, threats, and other extreme reactions when the issues are ones you all are aware of, are trying to address, and want to be fixed more than anyone.

I’m pulling for you guys. I know game development is harder and more complex than 99% of this subreddit probably recognizes. I know fixing one issue can lead to 10 new issues. I’ll be sticking with the game anyway, because it is a masterclass of an FPS and extremely fun. Thanks for all you guys have done.

Much love. Everybody definitely wants it to succeed. We've been blessed in a lot of ways so far. A hard journey ahead though.
