I'm sorry to hear you've encountered some trouble when collecting bronze medals for "The Cryptic Tutelage of Hildiran." @CoastalGirl is correct - you will need to collect nine bronze medals from nine different Mastery Trials.
I also found the Trials of the Bear a little tricky, as they didn't suit my play style at all. Like @CoastalGirl, I also don't think I'd parried before taking part in the Trials 
Practice makes perfect, though, and I'm sure you'll be able to earn those medals soon enough!
