When I enter the cave I see a key icon on top of a skeleton but as I approach to pick it up I get generic loot but not the key. How can i solve the problem?

If you have the light-fingered skill, try resetting this skill first (and don't upgrade it) as there is a known issue with this causing it to happen with key items.
