Good day!

I would like to report a graphics bug to you.

Sometimes, after starting the game, menu (HUD) elements would flicker. Some of the elements would flicker constantly, while others would flicker only during mouse hover (please see videos here: https://imgur.com/a/aK5ffua). When that happens, the only way to resolve this is to restart the game. It can take several attempts to get the game to launch without this issue. It is noteworthy that only the HUD is affected by this issue; the game world itself is always rendered correctly.

I am running the game on a Ryzen 9 5950X CPU and a GeForce RTX 3090 GPU, at 3840x1920, with all settings maximized. I tried lowering the game resolution; disabling G-SYNC; enabling VSync, but nothing seems to be effective. I also tried disabling the "in-game overlay for supported games" option in Ubisoft Connect, but that results in consistent graphical corruption that is evident even during loading screens.

I am running Windows 11 with the latest NVIDIA drivers (496.49), however this issue was reproducible on Windows 10 with older NVIDIA drivers, too.

Thank you!

Welcome to the Anno 1800 Discussions @pavelpru!

I'm sorry to hear you've encountered this flickering with your HUD in-game. Thanks for providing this clip showing the issue occurring as well!

In order to investigate this further, would you please try this technical troubleshooting guide to see if that helps?

Thanks!

Hey @pavelpru , thanks for coming back to us, and being so thorough with your relaying of the issue - that's most helpful! Do you work in tech, by any chance?

I've gone ahead and reported this to our teams to investigate further. In the meantime, can you tell me what refresh rate your monitor is running at? If it's more than 60Hz, can you use your Nvidia Control Panel to force 60 FPS, and see if the issue persists?

Sorry for the inconvenience while we look into this. Thanks again for your posts!

Thanks for coming back to me so promptly, @pavelpru 🙂

Our teams have asked a few additional questions:

  1. Which monitor do you use?
  2. Can you approximate how often this happens? Out of how many launches of the game would you say you noted this issue and had to restart?
  3. Can you send us across a couple of files? We'd need two files: a DxDiag file (we've got a support article describing how to find that here), and a copy of your engine.ini from %userprofile%\Documents\Anno 1800\config\ . These can be uploaded to a third party file sharing service, and you could then send me a link here in the thread. Or, if you'd prefer something more secure, you could create a support ticket over on our support website, where the agents will be able to arrange for you to upload the files to us directly.

Let me know if I can clarify any of these requests at all, and thanks again for your help with this!

@pavelpru

Hey there.

Thanks for answering those for us. Please let us know once you've submitted those files on a case and we'll send those over to the team for further investigation. If you are able to test this on a different PC then yes this would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey guys!

@phamtuananh2085 - thank you very much for taking the time to share this with us, I'm glad to see you seem to have been able to find a workaround for this!

@baraterek - thanks for getting in touch, if you could also test if @phamtuananh2085 's workaround and reducing the AA to 2x works for you too, it'd be appreciated!

@PavelPru - your system files have been passed onto the team while they investigate.

As you're also running on an RTX, could you please also see if @phamtuananh2085 suggestion helps you too? As the more confirmations or this workaround we can get, the better.

Thanks guys!
