Hey all! I’m Davis Standley, one of the level designers on Apex Legends. Kings Canyon is undergoing some pretty big changes for Season 5 - Fortune’s Favor, and I wanted to break down some of the decisions that shaped the map update into what it is.
Kings Canyon is a map with lots of history, and we wanted to make a bold change to how it would play in Season 5. In the end, we made way more than one. In Season 5, Kings Canyon is a new beast, forever changed by the actions of Loba and the Syndicate.
Our primary goal for Season 5 was to change the map flow. We wanted to create something to be mastered within a map that players knew very well. We’re trying to accomplish this in two ways. The first was sinking Skull Town and Thunderdome. It’s a big change, but we hope that by removing them, other parts of the map will shine. The Broken Coast now stretches from Octane’s Gauntlet all the way to the cliffs leading into Water Treatme...Read more

Hi all. I'm Rayme Vinson, a designer here on Apex Legends, and today I get to tell you about something new we've been cooking up for Season 5...
Season 5 of Apex Legends is a big one! It’s a season about adventure, digging up the past, and change - and the translocating thief Loba is an agent of that change. It’s her misadventures under Kings Canyon that caused the destruction of Skull Town, her vendetta that brings her to the games now, and her relentless drive that will push all the Legends into a new endeavor: our first Season Quest.... Greetings from your Apex Legends™ Ranked designers. We’re back again to talk about Ranked Leagues Series 4 for Apex Legends. As usual, we’ll take a look at our goals, talk about some results, and detail how Ranked Leagues will work when Season 5 - Fortune’s Favor launches.
Let’s quickly review our goals for Ranked and comment a bit on some of the Series 3 performance results. Ranked is feeling pretty consistent from season to season, but we will keep tuning things as needed!
I’m Jason McCord, Design Director on Apex Legends.
Throughout the last year we’ve heard many fun ideas from our fans about different ways to play Apex Legends. One of my favorites has been suggested countless times, and even more so when we introduced the Evo Shields in The System Override Event.
I’m excited to announce that starting Tuesday, April 28 we’re introducing a new limited-time mode called Battle Armor. The Battle Armor event takes place on World’s Edge and will evolve over 14 days in the lead up to Season 5, with a new twist on armor every few days.
Here’s how it’ll play out: during the event rotation only one armor type will be available, and players will drop into the match with it already equipped. Players will also drop with a P2020. All armor will be removed from the loot pool, but shield cells and batteries, as well as all the other sweet, sweet loot, will still be available (just not ...Read more

Starting on April 7th, Duos will be added to the game alongside Trios, as well a permanent map rotation that gives players the ability to play Duos or Trios on Kings Canyon and Worlds Edge.
Since the launch of Apex Legends, we’ve introduced Duos a few times as a limited-time mode, and overall it’s had a positive effect on the game’s health in regards to queue times and gameplay systems in addition to reinforcing teamplay (something that is paramount to every design decision we make for Apex Legends). So with the 4.2 update we are excited to be adding it as a permanent mode alongside Trios (Duos will not be available in Ranked).
Now, what about Solos? When we introduced Solos as a limited-time mode last year we saw it actually negatively impacted the game, especially when it came to new player retention. We’ve also purposely designed Legends and their abilities to compliment teamplay and squad composition, but when played Solo some Legend ...Read more

Hi! I’m Jason McCord, Design Director on Apex Legends. With Apex Legends Season 4 - Assimilation fast approaching, I wanted to share with you some of the design decisions that drove the Season 4 map updates to World's Edge.
Our main goal for a map update, on the design side, is to get players to make new decisions.
By the end of a season, you probably have your favorite spot, or spots, to land. You might prefer to rotate out of your drop location in a certain direction which in turns makes a lot of your games feel similar as the season progresses.
Our goal as Designers is to offer new ways for you to approach the game, and in this case the map, so that each drop, rotation, and gunfight feels as fresh as possible. Here are a few things we're doing in Season 4 to hopefully help achieve that.

As you drop into World's Edge, you'll immediately see the Planet Harvester, which Hammond Robotics are usin...Read more
