Do you have the game and your Documents folder both on the same hard disk?

Assuming you now have EU4 installed in a Steam library on your SSD, try this: use Notepad to create a text file called userdir.txt in the folder that eu4.exe is in. In that file place a single dot, save and exit. That makes the game create the user files and gfx cache on that drive, not in C: where documents is.

If so, it doesn't affect everyone with Win10. You could perhaps try running the game in Win7 compatibility mode, to test that theory.

I would say 30 fps is acceptable for a non-real time game, 20 or lower would be an issue though. But since you get the stuttering when fps is at 60, that's not related to your problem anyway.

BTW according to this story

Try setting

multi_sampling=0
maxanisotropy=0

That aside I see no real problem in there. Clearly the issue is not fps or refresh rate.

One thing interesting though; of your 8gb of system memory, the nVidia takes away 4gb, and the Intel video another 4gb ... ! Presumably not at the same time, but still ...

I don't suppose forcing the game onto the Intel helps? It shouldn't of course , but worth a test run I think.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/EU4/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ folder, attach system.log (rename to system.txt to attach). What version # and checksum do you see a/ in the launcher and b/ in the main game menu, when loaded with NO mods active?

Does this happen from the moment you start a new game? Or start OK then get worse?

Note that you can see your actual fps by turning on that feature in Steam.

Oh, right, sorry. No, it's not. There's no standard option to stop that, no. You might ask in User Mods whether they can think of a way.

You can disable all tooltips by editing documents.paradox.eu4.settings.txt . Not just that one though.

DLC names and numbers

DLCs reside in the program files area (this is under Steam/SteamApps/Common/Europa Universalis IV/DLC/) as two files for each DLC; dlc001.zip and dlc001.dlc . The .zip file contains the actual data, images or songs; the .dlc file is a simple text file that can be read with Notepad or Textapp and contains the title of the DLC as below.

001 100 Years War Unit Pack
002 Horsemen of the Crescent Unit Pack
003 Winged Hussars Unit Pack
004 Star and Cresent
005 American Dream
006 Purple Phoenix
007 National Monuments
008 Conquest of Constantinople Music Pack
009 National Monuments II

010 Conquest of Paradise
011 Conquistadors Unit Pack
012 Native Americans Unit Pack
013 Songs of the New World
014 Songs of Yuletide

This is a modified copy of the sticky thread with a similar title from CK2. Please point out any errors or additions below.

File Locations on Windows
The default location for the executables (eu4.exe and eu4_launch.exe and DLCs) is in C:/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Europa Universalis IV/ .

The user files (settings.txt, error logs, saved games, gfx, mods) are in C:\Users\USER\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\

File Locations on Mac OS X
The executable and DLC folder are in Users/USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Europa Universalis IV/

On OS X 10.8.x and later, Apple have hidden the /Users/USER/Library/ folder. To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and type in ~/Library/ .

The user files (settings.txt, error logs, saved games, gfx, mods) are in /Users/USER/Documents/Paradox Interac... Read more

Thanks for the update, I've put it in the Known Problems thread. Please report this to Comodo as a clear bug.

My apologies, too many threads! I meant to go into EU4's setup.log , search for "checksum", and paste that line only in here.

Go to MyDocuments EU4 and delete settings.txt and /gfx/ , and let the game recreate them.

If that doesn't help, Try a full clean reinstall: move any valued save games elsewhere and uninstall the game from within Steam. Then manually delete ALL the EU4 directories from under BOTH the Steam and MyDocuments folders. Now reinstall the game from Steam, and run the Verify just to make sure it all came down properly.

What version and checksum show on the main game menu?

Are you using any mods?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU) 1/ before starting the game up and 2/ after say 20 minutes' play. If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install SPEEDFAN or GPU-Z.
