Hello Erika, a QOL feature I would wish to see, (perhaps already mentioned?) that is, currently at area wipe everything goes dark. I feel it is disenchanting the game experience further as time goes on. may you implement dark or grey on the swipe but only for formation/monsters, and not the bench or skills?(keeping the core visible)

Hi ubi_contributor,

We do need the screen to change the art, but I'll add your vote to the item on our suggestion list to keep the bench visible during transitions.

Cheers!

Have an ideal, u dont need cap that stack. Just make it become diminishing return.

If it was additive, we'd leave it uncapped, but it is multiplicative.

why do all of zuczek's legendary effects have linear growth when the effects aren't even good?

The slot 1 was linear, as Laugh in the Face of Fire was infinitely stacking. I suppose we could look at potentially revising it now.

They're mostly in line with the boosts that other legendary items give though.

A couple shower thoughts on the Zuczek change:

Perhaps try a lower order curve, it's easier to keep quadratic growth in check. It also wouldn't be that hard to explain in the tooltip: "This ability applies its buff twice."

Another idea would be to take a page from Black Viper: The permanent part of the ability is linear, but it also has a strong exponential buff based on firestorms used in that run.

Those are some good ideas to keep in mind for future crusaders, thank you for sharing. :)

I'll just take the opportunity to plug the community discord to the devs, where the Zuc scaling was discussed in depth for at least a week before release, might be worth taking a quick look there, you could head off quite a few math issues with Crusader design, lots of folks like to analyze the effect of new crusader abilities. Though scaling issues with this one was pretty obvious given it has a permanently stackable multiplicative buff. It would be a very small time investment, but you could gain huge insight into your crusader designs.

Players over the new stacks cap will receive some deloreans for potential time warps spent on building up their stacks.

Then you will catch bugs or perceived game-breaking situations before the live version players see it; preventing a lot of disappointment from the players and developer regrets/needs for apologies, etc.

Other games that are released, yet still evolving, use a Beta version with volunteer players to work out unforeseen bugs / issues before the live version gets the new material implemented. Why not COTLI?

It's just the Steam launcher that has the Beta warning still. Apparently the CNE version got built without the Beta warning.

It is still a live service game, which does mean numbers will still change as we continue to update it.

I'll bring it up with the team if it's worth considering volunteer testers.

The compensation included an Arcane Geode and Rune Solvent if players owned Zuczek. Thank you for calling it out. :)

You're welcome. I'll pass it along to the team as well. :)

And I will second the thanks to the community for coming out to our Q&As. :D

Additive has been the preferred way to do permanent stacks. I wanted a multiplicative one to be a bit more fun.

Regarding Zuczek, I hope that any adjustment to her doesn't nerf her to oblivion. I think there's a happy medium that could be reached where she's not game breaking, but still provides a significant DPS buff, something that gets her a place in the meta.

Hopefully indeed. We'll see now that she's been changed.

I get that a nerf sucks, but Erika and the rest of the team are some of the most involved devs of any game I know. I think we should consider all the hard work they put into this (free to play) game, continuously keeping it interesting and entertaining and keeping in very close contact with the player-base.

Thank you Erika, and the other folks at CNE <3

You're quite welcome. <3

Just going to say don't be TOO aggressive when nerfing Zuczek. Let them still be powerful, just more reasonably so.

Doing some math: a stack cap of 30000 and a rune that increases 15% linearly per level would have, at rune level 15 and max stacks, a DPS boost of approximately e1212. This would be quite strong, but wouldn't overshadow current powerful crusaders or synergies - the sort of thing you'd want if you were looking to make a crusader than was powerful but not broken. They would be good, a desirable crusader to use, but wouldn't recentralize the entire game around them. (However, you might want to keep them out of 11th objectives.)

EDITED TO ADD: Just want to make clear, though, that I like the multi-stacking in principle. And I'd like to see more of that. It's just that the numbers need to be attended to. I proposed an idea for a multi-stack ability based on using buffs a while back, but the base there was .1%. That...

You're welcome for the chest code.

I think Zuczek should be a less game-breaking Crusader with the changes we've made to her, though she does still have some oomph.

I'm not surprised about Zuczek nerfs, although I was wondering if it could be done in a more elegant fashion, something akin to the Twins' Power of Two - using Firestorm grants a stack to the ability, and every power of two/three (since Zuczek is about threes)/ten (crabs have ten legs) grants a multiplicative buff of some kind, making initial levels easy to reach but making the insane amounts of DPS harder to reach.

That aside, where does the team intend to put the upper limit on the number of stacks at?

That's an interesting idea for a future Crusader power. We'll keep it in mind.

The cap we settled on was 40,000 stacks.

Hello Erika,

Only question this week is if we can potentially have one more rune solvent mission or somehow have a way to get more of them. I have more geodes than I need same goes for catalysts but I'm completely out of rune solvents. It's the one thing in the game I feel like is slightly too limited given how we need to use a few every time the meta changes.

Hi Impressive_Newt9990,

Rune solvents are definitely a weird one. Some players are using them all, some players are building a stash.

I can look at adding some more solvents to the season rewards for season 5, and then I'll add your vote to the request on our suggestion list to consider as well.

Hi Erika,

Most players already have many years of experience with COtlI and almost forgot how it was at the beginning. Sometimes I wish to remember that and check how it was, but I don't want to create a new account for that.

So, I have an idea for the new challenge. Call it like "Nostalgy" or "Back to Future Past". Only 20 first crusaders will be available during the challenge. Also, idols, talents and artifacts should have no effects. Trinkets and buffs may be ok.

In that case, new and old players will have almost the same experience. Maybe we should have that challenge like something rare and start it once a year after the anniversary

Regards,

Vitalii

Hi Vitalii,

That would be an interesting thing to try out, but it would probably have to have a special reward for the attempt.

We do have the Nostalgia Trip objective on Idols Through Time, though that does still allow for using Idols since it goes so deep and requires the boost from the Idols and Talents to complete.

The objective I Like Potatoes, with having the talents disabled which means the crusaders are back to a 5,000 level cap, was getting close to the limits of what players could achieve with the Tier 5 version, though with runes there might be a little more wiggle room for continuing to increase the Tiers of that objective for a couple more tiers.

We'll keep the idea in mind though.

Cheers!

Like I said, it depends on where we settle the cap.

If there are players over that cap that did spend warps, then they would get some warps back.

I love these Q&A sessions, & thanks for the code.

I am concerned that within a week of releasing a new crusader, the team is looking to rebalance her... it seems to me that one of the biggest part of Zuczek's identity is her infinite potential using a moderately slow stacking method. She has been one of the first crusaders in quite some time that I have been excited about, and I am concerned that she will be rebalanced to the point of uselessness. This pattern of releasing crusaders to immediately make changes is worrying.

Switching topics slightly: what was the inspiration for Zuczek's design? When I first saw her she struck me as being very demon like.

You're welcome for the code.

For a slow stacking method players already do have quite a few stacks, plus as mentioned, an infinite multiplicatively stacking ability makes Zuczek the Crusader to have. Justin's concern was more for the e4000 and higher DPS coming from just one Crusader instead of needing the formation to provide the support.

Since I had the ability to use Firestorm spec'ed out, Kat took the fire inspiration and the kikimore inspiration and ran with it.

You're welcome for the code.

We don't currently have any plans for more ways to get Runic chests aside from the 10 weekly and the dungeon seasons, but we'll see what happens.
