What different direction? Has anything new been added for Elyrion? Their whales were the best.
Not yet, but we plan to rework them in the near future.

Too bad it isn’t really possible to unlock everything in a real game. The new update makes it very difficult to afford multiple tier 3 techs, so trying to get sawmill, windmill, forge, ports, and markets is basically impossible to afford, making Trade a waste of stars with no real chance of making them back.
Since trade has been nerfed, and population boosts are more expensive, you can’t really build the type of economy that can support having multiple tier 3 techs. The game is now basically reduced to choosing one tier 3 tech to rush, and hoping that you choose the right one to compete with the one that your opponent chose.
This is the struggle. Before, we got complaints about there being "too many stars in the economy", and now, you're saying there's too few.
Midjiwan will probably poke and prod the Markets to make them more intuitive over time, but I can tell you that he does like the idea of you being forced to go "wide" and not just huddle up in a single tech branch.

I think I know what they're trying to say, it's not that there's no strategy it's that there's only one, and that's "everything". The way the economy works now it seems like you need to unlock every tech every game instead of being able to say focus on forestry OR farming.
The Market change was explicitly to encourage people to get all the techs (among other reasons).
We want you to want everything.
They say they want to encourage naval aspects, and yet you can’t upgrade naval units except in your own territory? That’s the dumbest mechanic ever. So now I have to keep an entire force stuck in my zone while I upgrade every unit before exploring? Dumb.
This change was made so that you have to think a little about navy comp before getting into a fight.
We didn't want people just bringing 10 backup Rafts and upgrading them on the fly. If you didn't bring enough Rammers, that's on you.
It's hard to be a sailor when you live in a landlocked city. Seems this ship's crew have figured out how to live their dreams, and we support them. :)

Idk i still get lobbies with the old stuff, maybe because some people havent updated...If thats the case you should be able to install an older Versions and play it
It's only because people haven't updated, and that takes a few days.
I kind of wish there was an option to reset the stars per tribe. I’d like to start fresh to see who I need to get 95%/ 100% again.
But it should be opt in, because other people would want to keep their stars.
You are able to reset your scores. I think it's in the Throne Room menu
