I'm sure when this was first announced it showed much more interesting looking enemies (similar to the event in the past) but then they got replaced by some rather boring generic blue more human looking things that disappear when killed. Did this ever get changed again or is that how its gonna be in the release?

If the enemies themselves are what you mean by "boring blue things" there's no change, but if what you are referring to is some very early leaked footage of the VR Training Mode, where the enemies are not actually enemies but holograms of enemies that disappear into "blocks" of sorts then do not worry, that's the VR Training mode. Those fake enemies behave very similarly to a certain gadget in Siege.
