[2022] Lost progress?

My op was level 5 and a half so I went on an incursion but he went MIA, I tried rescuing him and failed during the tree pulling thing.
But, when I go back to the main menu he's no longer MIA and he's back to level 4 so he's actually lost progress to less than the level he was at before going on the incursion.
