So the glitch for me momentarily fixed for 5 hours yesterday… before there was even an update. But then it came back, and now there’s an update and it’s still glitchy. :(

Apologies for the late response. We released 16.8.1 last night which should fix the issue. Please let me know if that's not the case.

Is there any way to troubleshoot it on my own?

Unfortunately, there is no workaround right now.

Hi, Twitch staff here. Thanks for the report, we had identified this bug as well and will issue a fix in the next release.

Edit: Fix will be released on Monday (given Apple approves the version on time).

Edit 8/24: There was an issue merging the code into Monday's release. We're aiming to submit a hotfix today.

Edit 8/25: Fix is now available in version 16.8.2.

I wasn't able to find the version number, but it was just released. I got the notification today for the update. So whatever is the most recent. This has been happening since the previous update at least

The team believes we have identified the root cause. We hope to have a fix out next week.

Thanks! That's good enough.

This is happening to me as well. Some streams completely freeze as soon as I try to type in chat or use emotes. Not all however, and not the same streams every time. I am not multitasking at the time. I have tried killing the app, restarting my phone, deleting and reinstalling the app. I just did the most recent update today and was hoping that would fix the issue. It did not. In fact, it was only happening for 1 streamer before, and now it's multiple. I have an iPhone 14 running on IOS 17.0.3

Thanks a lot for the info. Could you confirm which app version you're on so I can pass that data to the engineering team?

Still happening on my end daily. Very infuriating. Trying to just navigate the app and it freezes while steam is still playing. Complete frustration. Such a major inconvenience especially when I am PAYING for subscriptions yet it always continues to freeze.

Could you provide some additional info? What OS and App version are you running? Does it happen when you multitask outside of the app or when you are browsing different channels? Does it happen if you stay in the same channel?

Does this happen when following the steps described by the OP or is the app crashing under different conditions?

Version 15.9.2 of the app has been released and it should re-enable the low latency player. Please let me know if you are still experiencing issues after updating.

Hi, Twitch staff here. We had to temporarily remove the low latency player yesterday as it was causing the app to freeze under certain conditions. We'll be releasing a patch today that should fix the issue.

We have mitigated impact and will soon be rolling out a new version that should fully address the issue.

Hi, Twitch staff here. Could you confirm if you are in the 15.9 version of the app? That's the latest, released yesterday.

Are you multitasking when this happen? For example, does it crash when switching into a different app or are you interacting with it?

Do you happen to have a video of the crash?

Thanks!

Hi. I experience the same flicker when using the Twitch app on my Android TV.

I have different Android TVs/Chromecasts and have the same issue on all of them.

When watching a stream every few seconds it flickers. The screen goes black for a few milliseconds. It doesn't happen during adverts only streams.

Reducing the source resolution makes it flicker less. But then it's blurry.

Casting the same stream doesn't have the issue at all. It's only when viewing the stream directly through the app. I have also noticed it happens if using a Web Browser and the twitch web site on my Android TV rather than using the Twitch app. Only casting doesn't cause it.

Thanks, I'll relay to the team.
