Are the LP changes meant to make climbing easier? Can you still get to a point where you are gaining less than you are losing?

The ladder being streamlined isn't a good thing for the game I feel. The prestige in ranked has already faded away.

Have a good day :D

These are not intended to make the climb easier. Players who spike up above their estimated MMR in rank will still receive less LP for a win and lose more for a loss until their MMR catches up to their LP. This is the same as the inverse where you are not at your projected rank for your MMR and you will see higher gains and lower losses.

The changes we made in this patch are so that LP will change less drastically and gains and losses will be smoother and more consistent overall.

You may still see outliers of LP disparity, but overall it should be smoother.

So I know it's not the most visible location (definitely pretty deep in the client), but if you go to the Ranked tab inside the profile, and filter the ladder by "Top Solo/Duo Players" you can spectate games in progress from the top solo queue players if they have a "spectate eye" next to their name.

You just right click on the name and click `Spectate Game`.

Looks like what /u/CodeofBear said would be the truth here. So no need to do placements. I would still do them, just to be sure.

You don’t need to do placements if you were ranked in 2020. Can confirm.

You’re right it’s worded wrong. Ill have the team correct that. You should be able to play in Clash this year if you were ranked in the previous season.

At the beginning of the year, we allowed players who hadn't finished 2021 placements to compete in the Shadow Isles cup as long as they were ranked in Season 2020. Overall, it was a good step in allowing those that didn’t want to rush through their placements to participate, and we’re deciding to keep it around for future seasons so teams can play together in January without having to grind out 10 ranked matches first.

Where does it say u can play in Zaun cup if u are still unranked this season?

You’re right it’s worded wrong. I’ll have the team correct that. You should be able to play this year in Clash if you were ranked in the previous year.

They are in the awards case in the Clash tab. The profile resets every season.

You can play if you were ranked last season or this season in flex or solo queue.

I'd love to have the team give insight into the tech decisions and architecture. Some of these problems have unique and challenging solutions under the hood.

Regarding the leaver/afks. Some people just click here and there every few mins to avoide leaver buster but still stay in base afk. I mean when a champ hasnt left the fountain for 5min is save to say they are not playing the game. It shouldnt be that easy to "out play" a leaver buster.

We have in-flight work to directly improve our detection of these exact behaviors. They're not quite ready for launch yet, but they are showing improvements in test.

I don’t wanna hear “it’s just norms”. Do we tolerate extreme toxicity / game ruining behaviour when we play pick-up ball?

/u/CodeofBear

Yes, these changes apply to normal queues. The exception is the LP consolation changes.

Preseason Ranked changes testing on PBEHey all, we've activated some of our Preseason ranked changes on PBE for testing in Ranked Solo/Duo queue which means we'll also be enabling ranked on PBE. Specifically, rolling out the following:

  • Inter-division promos have been removed. On promo, leftover LP will now roll over into your next division. Inter-division demotion shielding at 0 LP has been removed as well.
  • We've also made some matchmaking algorithm adjustments. This won't be super noticeable on PBE due to the small population size and fewer ranked games played per account; we're mainly looking for bugs.
  • For those players at Master and above rank, duo queue will be disabled as part of our Apex duo removal feature.

In order to get more exposure on these changes, we've temporarily disabled normal queues. If you want a refresher on these and other Ranked changes we're working on, head to our most recent Ranked blog: ...

Okay, so then the proper set up for this is "Report 9x" now?

Like, I totally understand your point, I just know that the situation works in absolutes (when it comes to these sorts of conversations with people, not you or Riot in particular), it's either 9x works and you should do it to get someone punished, or 1 report works and it flags the game for Riot to see it.

Though I think at the end of the day, the mentality of "1 or 9 means a flag" is probably the best, because you can still have people report, it just doesn't specify to people that 9X REPORT shoots the potential offending behavior to the top, because I think that sort of behavior is degenerate, even if you can filter it out in terms of report quality.

I get what you're saying, people should report rule-breaking behavior if they see it, Riot will see the flag for the game but it will have flags from other people too to help "corroborate"

It's not black and white, as everyone has different behavioral thresholds; so yes, what I'm saying is report behavior that you believe is rule breaking if you see it. Don't rely on others to report for you.

Interesting, so what you're saying is that in a single game, if I report someone and then another dude reports someone, then the priority for report goes up?

Otherwise it sounds like you're saying that reporting over multiple games factors, which I don't think the comment I made disagrees with that.

Rate of reports is taken into account when analyzing consistent disruptive behavior. If players only think reporting 1 time matters in a game, then they won't feel their individual report matters and will not report. This reduces the rate of reports metric and as such makes it more difficult to identify disruptive behavior through reports that allow us to gain confidence in the action we need to take.

It also will make it difficult to identify players who report consistently well, versus those that report every game (as noted in the article).

Our system takes these into account and we're constantly building on the ingest pipeline to make sure that we're more and more confident when taking action.

Just to clean-up misinformation, that understanding is outdated (3 years old). Reporting players consistently matters. Our systems take into account all reports holistically. As such, if a player believes someone deserves a report, then they should report that person since it feeds the system independently.

Not entirely the same thing, but you can watch challenger games by going to the Ranked tab, filtering by challenger ladder, and clicking on the players with the "Spectator Eye" next to them. This symbol indicates they are in a game and can be spectated.
