Were you playing in a private servers? Private server owners are able to change any settings at any time.
If it was on an official server, that could be a bigger issue.

Quick update: Our team submitted two internal fixes for performance and stuttering issues on Friday (they now need to go through QA), and they’re looking at the PS4Pro loading issues (invisible enemies).
