Considering their academy team is stomping it seems like their domestic talent scouting/building system is pretty damn good, would personally love to see TL use that to pack a super promising domestic trio around 2 of the best imports that can find to compliment it. Similar to EG, I think that hybrid system historically works great for NA better than trying to stack a full team of the biggest names you can find that seems to clash against each other more often than not no matter the region.

Obviously doing well at Worlds with a full domestic roster is the dream, but until LCS gets near it's former glory with tons of hype and 500k regular season viewership again, I just don't see that happening soon. If Riot/Jackie can make the game pop off that hard in NA again tho...perhaps we'll see another S4 C9 type roster again.

We're sure gonna try for that! And to the below poster's comment... I believe our players can rise to the occasion. We had player meetings a few weeks ago to talk about the future and what we'd love to see from them and hopefully together we can do that.

She absolutely is a treasure :) She's told me more about what other leagues are doing and more about the ecosystem than anyone so far I think.

LCS has been by far better than LEC this year from content to production

While I appreciate the sentiment, both leagues are wildly different with different content and production approaches and we've been trying to collaborate and share across both regions to make the best productions possible for our fans in our respective regions. Hopefully it becomes less so LEC vs LCS etc and more unique in how we each approach building something for our fans in our home regions and we can appreciate awesome production in each! 😍

As someone who attended in person, there were quite a few issues with the pre-show things in the United Center due to rain on Sunday. Very poor communication from Riot, leaving fans out in the pouring rain for a half hour after telling them to go to a specific gate, and some other issues.

As for the actual games and show, the orientation of the screens made it quite difficult to watch at most points. I was in one of the corner sections and do not think tickets should be sold for those sections, it was that bad.

Overall though, had a fun time, and I agree with most of the comments about production value being high

We're really sorry about that. It's always difficult working with a huge venue when thousands of arena staff and production are scheduled around certain times. An outdoor Fan Fest is always a big risk and unfortunately Saturday was very hot and Sunday was torrential rain. We tried our best to communicate on social and to adjust the arena hours/opening the next day to try to be flexible but as I saw in person, it was still very trying on many fans. We're really sorry about your poor experience with the outdoors and the screens and are absolutely looking at addressing that for the future.

Agree. LCS really stepped up. I know some casters hang out on reddit and have been quietly taking the "feedback" that we all have. I hope those folks see this and can be proud of their improvement. I was a complainer as well, but I'm fully on board now. Don't stop tho. LEC has a super cool vibe as well and I think you can learn from each other.

I don't love the costream limitations. I actually love watching matches live on the riot stream and then rewatching youtube costream highlights (sneaky's editor mvp). I tend to think the costreams make me double dip more than choose between casts.

The casters/talent have been a HUGE part of our internal feedback sessions and they have discussed/suggested many things you all talk about here :)

This is an absolutely lovely thread. Thank you for taking the time to write it, especially given your feelings on LCS in the past. It absolutely is a team effort and not one person at all. I could disappear and the show would go on as the production team/staff have been doing this for years and are true passionate experts in their craft. I am really happy to see people notice the little things we've been trying to do and testing in advance of next year for the new vision we have for the LCS. We'll keep listening and learning -- these kind of threads are really encouraging for all of us, especially coming off an event where many worked around the clock (in the heat, rain, etc even!) to make the fan experience special.

Thanks and I hope you continue to give us a chance in the future. πŸ’œ

Got a question, might be a weird one, but I think its relevant. Why would the LCS like stop doing such things (focusing on player personalities) etc...? Things you might categorize as "the basics" of any sports league. Is it a case where leadership gets complacent from past successes? Or just people egoing it?

Not exclusive to LCS but every esport I've worked on has focused on different creative approaches or angles... some focus more on the teams or cities, some focus more on the competition, talent skits, etc. Just saying that we're made an intentional focus across broadcast, content, etc to really showcase player personalities and asking them to be themselves.

The new faces of the league. I am glad we are getting some fresh content on them. I feel more connected to these players then I ever did DL or Bjerg cause I came in at around 2019 so I don't have the connection a lot of people have to the old guard.

I am really loving the story lines they are making.

Glad to hear that! That's definitely our goal πŸ’œ

Really glad to hear this. Sometimes in "gamer" spaces mental health isn't valued, encouraging to see Riot cares about it.

Thank you! It's really important. I've been personally affected by it as I'm sure many others have as well. This is just something all of us in the industry should be thinking about and trying to work together to help as much as we can, IMO.

In the event of an emergency prior to the scheduled start of a Match, a Team will be given up to two hours to produce an eligible substitute on-site. If a replacement cannot be found, then the Team will forfeit. League Officials will determine if an event qualifies as an emergency.

I think it's safe to assume that the League Ops will classify this situation as an emergency, especially considering the substitute player is already contracted by the org and it's clearly not just a ploy for an upgrade.

Yes, I can confirm that LCS has supported an emergency substitution due to mental health. For privacy reasons I don't think it's appropriate to comment on the specifics but we have verified the nature of this emergency and have notified competing teams.

Just as a wider comment -- I think mental health is extremely important in esports and in the LCS and it's something I personally believe we need to keep supporting. Earlier this year, we started discussing how we as a league can help with mental health overall in the LCS and in our development systems. For example... how we think about our formats (e.g. break weeks), working with players on their schedules (e.g. trying to avoid doing LCS-produced content on their 1 day off a week), having general mental health resources and more support, how we structure our academy/amateur development, and of course having mental health resources and support for our players... I think these are all things we'd like to invest in. A much wid...

Was it stated that teams were allowed to continue to pause whenever they felt the issue was impacting the game? Or was it assumed that they'd actually play through it?

Teams were informed that if they continued to play from the arena there would likely still be pauses as we knew the issue was not resolved and could not be resolved until the arena was shut down and broadcast finished. Many teams/GMs feel performance is higher on stage in a formal setting and the players themselves felt more comfortable to keep playing from the arena so we supported that decision.

Completely understandable, has the team identified if this will continue to be an issue for this weekend until a permanent fix is in place or will teams be given alternate options like the options given to teams today?

It's a hardware/infrastructure issue so we're ripping stuff up tonight trying to find the bad actor(s) and resolve as quickly as possible. We've worked with the teams tomorrow to keep them updated on the situation to see if we need to play remotely or not. πŸ˜”

u/JackFelling Can you help us understand why League Officials gave the teams the option to continue playing on stage rather than putting their foot down about the issue? I understand not wanting to play a high stakes games from a practice room or at home, but the 2hr delay with additional pausing even after agreeing to play through was abysmal as a viewer (and I’m certain much worse to experience as a player).

As you mentioned we did give the teams the option of playing on stage through the issues, playing in practice rooms or playing from team facilities, but after Game 1 and 2 both teams unanimously wanted to continue and we checked in after the following matches. Both sides of the stage were affected by the issues. Given the nature of the situation, we wanted to support the players to play where they feel most comfortable for this high stakes match.
