If it's based on IP and MAC address of the original creation, then I'm f**ked if I get hacked because obviously both of those have changed in over 12 years.

It's normally fairly obvious when an account has changed hands. We expect people to move around over the years and we wouldn't expect you to be playing from the same PC years after you created the account. So long as you have good links to the account and can provide some good older information, you shouldn't have much to worry about

Is the player told this without having to post on reddit?

They're asked in the replies to their denied appeals to provide information about the creation of the account and any changes in location since creating it

I've taken a look at the account and I can see that the recovery requests are being denied because you don't appear to be the legitimate creator of the account. From the information that you've been supplying, it would appear as though you were given/purchased the account a couple of years ago.

I can however also see that the account isn't currently in the hands of the account creator so I've secured it.

To recover the account, you will need to supply us with earlier information that would help to prove that you created it. This information would include creation location, billing contact details and earlier passwords.

This is against the rules. Your ban won't be adjusted as a result of you appealing it.

Acorn moved last year from Anti-cheating to community manager, no replacement or another addition just you and Tyran on 2 games is not enough.

Linkedin, glassdoor and the official jagex page no sign of open positions in anti-cheating anymore.

The anti-cheating team is not part of the engine team. Positions in the anti-cheating team are typically filled internally because it's easier to ensure that candidates are trustworthy.

There are currently 6 mods in the anti-cheating team. Myself and Tyran are full time anti-cheating and the others are auxiliary members, who are split between anti-cheating and support roles.

Hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but why do you have very limited technical resources?

The game is no where short of profitable, so its not a money issue, and countering bots and protecting the economy really ought to be top priority, above any update really, the whole game is based around it.

Now of course I understand you can’t just make graphics artists work on anti bot measures, but do you not feel this is an area Jagex could really double down on and insure a more stability.

From what I understand, the engine team have been trying to recruit new staff for a long time but haven't been very successful. Why this is, I don't know the specifics of but there are still a number of positions available.

I'm obviously massively biased but I do agree that it should be a very high priority to improve our anti cheating systems. However, the company does have other priorities and things such as mobile, account security and clan support are also considered to be very high priority.

It's like they got paid in real life so now they're just gifting their millions.
Seems like a legit enough reason to ban.

They don't work in huge amounts of wealth, they quite often move off less than 10m at a time. Players move this kind of wealth around all the time.

It would be difficult to find a requirement that a hand played gold farmer wouldn't be willing to do themselves. We could lock it behind some really high level requirement but it seems unfair on legitimate lower level players who would also be prevented from doing the content.

Once they RWT or move them over to their main, it's obvious isn't it?
Just banhammer then.

If we find evidence of them RWTing their wealth, they will be banned. Moving it to another account isn't conclusive evidence that they're going to RWT it.

Any chance we could get a break down of membership status and activity? Just out of curiosity.

Thank you for your efforts to make OSRS less botted.

I don't have an exact breakdown to hand but the majority will be the F2P 'suicide' bots that get replaced very quickly

I went through my ignore list searching Every.Single.Account on the highscores and removed the ones that were 'removed from highscores'.

The Red Square on the right shows all the accounts that were reported in the past and that currently remain on my ignore list, and I decided to do a larger check today, and well yeah.

They are banning some accounts.

I have no proof these are bots other than the stats and that they're 'camping' Zulrah and I could be wrong for some accounts.

Jagex. You shouldn't have to have your paying customers (playerbase) reporting these bots for you.

Edit: JUST REPORT THEM.
If there was an incentive to reporting them besides having a cleaner game i'm 99% sure you'd see a lot more reports.

90% of the accounts that you're posting here aren't bots. They're gold farmers that have either purchased the account, hijacked it or trained it legitimately to get it ready for farming Zulrah. They don't sell their gold often and (unfortunately) I can't just ban an account for looking like it will probably sell gold at some point. If an account is reaching crazy high amounts of XP, they're likely storing all the wealth up ready to cash out or moving it off the account very discretely to try and avoid being picked up.

We are banning 10's of thousands of bots EVERY DAY (50.4k yesterday) and thousands more manual gold farming accounts on top of that. You're under no obligation to report these bots, or make a Reddit post informing everyone that you've done so. I appreciate if you want to take time out of your day to bring them to our attention but I'd be much happier if you didn't feel obligated to spend a lot of time hopping worlds trying to find them.

I'm very aware ...

I don't handle cape buyers. They are usually processed in waves because it's easier to do all the I checks at once

Hi Mod Weath,

Would it be possible for us to have a system to see if our reports went through and were helpful in getting the bots banned? Or even just a notification that the bot was banned.

It would be great if we could offer something like this but, honestly, I can't see it happening any time soon. The backend systems that would need to be worked on for this to happen are very old and the time of the teams that would need to do the work is in very short supply at the moment.

Glad to see that it's looking a little better today! I updated some of our systems on Friday to help keep on top of them a little better. I suspect that they'll probably come back in the not too distant future though so please continue to report them for Games of Chance and we'll continue doing what we can with the systems we have available

Correct, he was just about to be DQ'd before he lost his fight. The account was also subsequently banned.

If his appeal is accepted, the recovery link will be sent to the email that he supplied in his recovery, which is not the compromised email.

I created the email after the first time I was hacked, and two step authenticated it. Any advice on how to proceed going forward to ensure optimal security? And could you possibly dm me and tell me which email was hijacked?

I would run as many virus scans as possible to make sure that your computer is fully secure. Then go and make a brand new Gmail account with a unique password and add 2-step to it. Register that on your RS account and then never use it anywhere else. Set up the RS authenticator and set a unique password on your RS account.

Run regular virus scans, try not to visit any untrustworthy websites and don't share your account.
