It's unlikely that we'll support virtualization but I wouldn't say never.

Re-commenting for ping, vanguard stops vmware vms from working

The initialization of the VMware Workstation device driver has failed. Execution of this virtual machine cannot continue.

It was fixed for like a day, but broke again today with the new patch. It always works if i rename vgk.sys to something else and restarting (to prevent the kernel driver from running) and always crashes when vgk is running.

I should be able to use VMs on my host system!

I'll ask the team about it to see what can be done.

I copied a script to use it too simple toggle run/walk, i really wish this game had it but it doesnt. its an AutoHotKey script. and this is it if you are curious.

CapsLock::

KeyDown := !KeyDown

If KeyDown

SendInput {n down}

Else

SendInput {n up}

Return

I heard people can use AHK for recoil stuff, and im not a real scripter, and have no intention of ever using anything like that, its simply for a feature that should already be in the game(i think). i found this only for another game someone used. I am just curious if I will eventually get banned for using this, I mean it does make my life easier not hav...

We're not banning for the use of AutoHotKey right now with the exception of blatant cheatery like pixelbot/recoil control scripts.

If we change our stance on this in the future we'll make sure everyone hears about it!

(also standard disclaimer we can't offer support for third party software or guarantee that it works with Valorant)

I have a question:

I’m deaf in one ear, can we make sound being sent to one output channel like iPhone accessibility features available?

I'll bring it up with the team, we can probably do something like this but I don't know when we'll get to it!

This patch should reduce the number of packets that are sent which should reduce ping spikes and any "router bricking".

We've also fixed a crash that could happen if a packet got corrupted just right but that's a different issue.

Vanguard patches on a separate cadence to the game, a performance improvement was included in an update a few days ago.

If you're still having issues let me know and maybe we can figure it out.

Edit: For anyone who wants to help track this down here's the information that I'm looking for:

  1. Your Vanguard logs from C:\Program Files\Riot Vanguard\Logs

  2. A Windows Performance Trace while another game is open and is lagging.

To generate the performance trace these are the steps:

Install Windows APK (only the performance parts are necessary)

  1. Open an admin command prompt

  2. Demonstrate the perf problem (run an impacted game)

  3. Run: xperf -on DiagEasy

  4. Wait a few seconds (hopefully to catch a stutter or frame drop)

  5. Run xperf -d %TEMP%\trace.etl

  6. ...

Keep in mind, this driver did not show up when using sigverif. Also, my copy of windows 10 and my other device drivers are completely up to date.

Thank you for the report, I'm glad it's working for you again but I'm sorry that it was so much trouble!

I think once a player reached a certain rank or experience with the game a player should be allowed to see a report and watch and dictate a ban and if the player (who is "overwatching") continuously makes a false positive then this privilege can be removed. This could possibly be applied to live games such as a case where a player reports the enemy, the "overwatcher" is given the option to watch the game live. This would seem like a cool idea and I'm just wondering if you would implement this? (Sorry for being a long post and I hope you see this and have a good week!)

I definitely like CSGO's Overwatch system!

We're hoping to build something like it but it won't be ready for the launch of our ranked mode and will have to wait until we've built a replay system.

If Vanguard goes from working to not, and the path to resolution is opening a ticket and being told what to remove, then Riot should cut out the middle man and just have Vanguard instruct the user as to what is "untrusted". Security by obscurity is usually not helpful, but in the anticheat case where the client is untrusted, but to play the game their inputs have to at some point be trusted, it makes sense to have the anticheat functionality not be clear.

As someone who does non-work development on their own machine (I run WSL2, have a yubikey, etc) I'm very concerned by the fact there seems to be some drivers that Riot sees as bad actors, but have valid use cases (ie VirtualBox). While this game is currently provided for free, I am investing time into it. It would be (and currently is) very frustrating if that time ended up being "wasted" if Riot thinks the way I use my computer isn't one they want to support. It is especially ...

Thanks for the feedback, I'll see what we can do to make this a better experience.

VirtualBox isn't considered bad itself just that one of its drivers has a known security vulnerability. Exploiting the security vulnerability could be used as a privilege escalation to install an unsigned cheat driver. Even if you don't want to play Valorant I recommend removing that driver.

For any unsigned driver files (.sys files) you should either remove them or try to update them to the latest version.

Why let people connect with an out of date Vanguard at all?

We like to give a short grace period during an update so that people who are in game when the update goes live aren't disconnected. Also, seeing who connects with an old version is very useful information.

Okay, but what do we do if this is a driver that we actually need really badly? The only driver that sigverif finds for me is a driver for my graphics tablet, which is the official and latest version of that driver, and which I need to have my tablet working.

As long as the driver isn't loaded the game should run, so one thing you could try is to unplug the tablet and then be able to play the game.

Check for gdrv.sys (see my edit) and if that doesn't work I recommend a support ticket

Hey everyone, the latest version of Vanguard won't run if it detects vulnerable or out of date drivers on your computer.

If you run "sigverif" it will give you a list of unsigned components that could be preventing Vanguard from starting. Any driver (.sys file) on that list should be updated or removed.

This problem can sometimes occur if your device drivers are out of date, not signed properly, have been modified or are otherwise kind of busted.

This page has a few methods on how to detect drivers like this so you can update or remove them: https://www.drivethelife.com/windows-10/check-unsigned-drivers-on-windows-10.html

Here are some instructions on how to uninstall Vanguard: https://support-valorant.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/360044648213-Uninstalling-Riot-Vanguard

The TL;DR is that it's Riot Vanguard in Add/Remove programs but in the future we will automatically uninstall it when the game is uninstalled.

Does it auto-update? Is it just manual updates?

Both don't sound too great. I can understand an anti-virus program asking once in a while to restart my computer for an update it loaded in the background. But that does not sound like something an anti-cheat system for a computer game should do.

But manual, for example when the user starts the game sounds not so great either. Imagine a game like WoW asking to restart your computer after updating.

And worse than that, what about someone who does not actively play at the moment. Or worse, uninstalled the game which still keeps Vanguard installed. Is it just sitting on a users PC, unpatched, for months?

Nowhere does it mention how you plan on distributing security patches for Vanguard, and that should be mentioned somewhere shouldn't it?

Vanguard checks for updates when a player tries to launch the game (it's done as part of the game update check). A player can't launch the game without the latest version.

If there was a serious security problem that required people to update or remove Vanguard we would try and get the message to everyone. We would also take whatever other steps we could to protect people from a vulnerable driver such as asking Microsoft to blacklist the driver and revoking the certificate.
