But when someone spends like $400 on keys that's not an advantage over someone else who didn't spend $400 on keys?

I didn't realise this happened prior to my original message but that's just crap :(

I literally just came back to RS today and this was a hell of a read.

Obviously this has been made incredibly more difficult by how long the bug was active.

4 of the accounts above have been proactively so that we can do further investigations before taking a final action.

Proactively what?

I feel like this one is tough because this was an exploit that was very clearly and visibly active to do, and the fact it took so long to address probably led to people using this method as normally game breaking things like this are addressed quickly with comms put out.

I imagine some streams were even shown with the method so this has caught out people who just did it via word of mouth. :(

EDIT:

I spoke to Wazzy on his stream here's my main points

  • I feel like this should have been posted on a stream day so a official stream can then follow this up afterwards.
  • The fa...

The increased regularity is one of these balancing acts we face as a studio. None of us are going to pretend this thread isn't more negative - but even here, there's people getting excited in comments (and elsewhere online) about hitting the DXP grind.

This is where we face a balancing act, specifically the 'silent majority'. I'm sure many of you have heard this before, but the picture the team makes of our playerbase is a mix of extensive data and player feedback combined as much as we can.

What the numbers show is a huge desire for these events - one that didn't diminish with our first 'quarterly' follow up DXP event, even shortly after a new skill release. Of these players, the vast majority don't use all their time - in fact, the majority don't even use half of it - but they obviousl...

I think after reading this and stepping back to try and understand viewpoints I'll chime in with this.

but even here, there's people getting excited in comments (and elsewhere online) about hitting the DXP grind.

I think my frustrated stemmed from me personally but that is probably a limited viewpoint compared to people who won't have that time to make the gains compared to others so that excitement is still justified and that's fair.

Can't disagree with that either that was the reasoning when I tried to argue against some DXP events in the past when I was there.

This will be the first year of the new cadence and we'll see how it goes. Sometimes we'll try new things for the better, sometimes for the worse, but so far the demand has been there i...

My "complaints" are because I care about the game, I originally learned the game fully to help me do my job better but then stuck at it because I became very passionate about it.

Incredibly a CM doesn't have the power to force stuff not to happen like management, we can only provide the feedback and see if something changes.

I did bring it up while I was there, more than a few times actually in addition to the feedback sent over internally as well.

Also, where have I specifically hated on Poerkie? He's not the person to blame here.

Hey Shaun, I hope your alright!

Take a look the FAQ that we added to the last DXP Live post, that will hopefully give some insight into why.

I'll also see if I can add it to this one, but that might take some time.

Hey Poerkie,

Thanks for this! I was aware of this to an extent, personally I remember when DXPs were seen as these big events but at this frequency that appeal has gone for me :(

If that makes sense?

Again...? I feel like this is way too soon yet again :(

With the pattern this year it means we’re likely to see the fourth DXP in November which I believe is the first time we’ll have had 4 DXPs in a year.

I do miss RS but right now I’m glad I’ve lapsed out of membership I have no motivation for it right now:

EDIT: I've shifted my stance a little on this based on /u/JagexHooli's reply, you really should check it out

Love you guys, thanks :)

Looks like they gave you back the object cosmetic version instead of the actual object item, oops!

Shauny, out of curiosity do you still have an active membership with your Runescape account? How is life since you moved. Are you planning to release any more videos on YouTube? I enjoyed watching those! Keep safe!

My membership runs out in 4 days, I'm undecided if I'll actual extend it, but we shall see as I don't really play nowhere near enough as I do, knowing me though I probably will :P

Life's good! Trying to smash things on my end and having fun with it, and not sure if I'll do more videos, I did enjoy them though!

Liam (Hooli) deserves the praise from Gears, he did an absolutely wonderful job there and I've known him for close to 10 years now, he'll be fine here and he'll smash it :D

You did originally say that our accounts were safe and there was no breach but you appear to have edited your post entirely, any ideas why?

Based on what I've seen, this seems to only be affecting accounts with usernames only and not emails, hopefully we get an official confirmation on this.

EDIT: Worth editing to mention that in the time since I posted this initially it seems to also impact email login users as well, Jagex have an article up confirming their investigating here as well as /u/JagexJD's comment [here].(https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/h8i13r/possible_database_leak_at_jagex_stay_safe/fusi3ox/?context=3)

Having a grasp of a couple concepts of good programming concepts is also important and knowing when to use them, stuff like design patterns, the SOLID and DRY principles are very good examples of this.

So who would have thought that 6 years later after EoC, the player title system was written so badly and in an unsafe manner that it even could corrupt player safe files, that it had to be disabled and be rewritten from scratch?

Being a developer isn't only a job, it's constant learning from new technologies and adapting them. Every company does it differently and Unity is no exception. I am sure you may be aware of Unity also adapting and being innovative, like the Data-Oriented Technology Stack (DOTS) within Unity, which required to rebuild a hefty chunk of the game's engine for the better.

This is what I lack...

Absolutely agree, I'm basing it on the devs because I feel like they're doing good stuff in the background but whatever comms are on-going is halting the progress of showing/talking about it, the silence is a problem right now for sure.

I hear you say this but I havent seen the proof. They give quite the opposite impression...

And what are you basing this on?

Comment

I'm all for constructive feedback but let's be real here

either jmods are severly slacking off at home and not doing any actual work or i dont know,

I'd very much disagree with this, it's likely they are doing some stuff but for some reason they're not allowed to talk about it. The Jmods who work on RS are ridiculously good at it, and don't get near enough credit for how much they have to actually deal with when it comes to the game.

I can agree with some comms being off, etc because I'd love to know when's the next big update and I loved keeping up with BTS, showcase streams, etc but I'm pretty sure Jagex know this from posts and are hopefully trying to sort something around it.
